Janice Marie
Slomchinski Wenzel
Mar 15, 1940 — Dec 22, 2021
Schertz
It is with profound sadness that the family of Janice Marie Slomchinski Wenzel announce her passing on December 22, 2021 in Schertz, Texas at the age of 81. Janice passed peacefully and has joined our Lord and the Perpetual Light will shine on her always. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Russell Wenzel and wife Jill; grandchildren, Grace and Hope; brother-in-law, Jimmy Seay; sisters, Ellen Bates, Bertha Ann Slomchinski, and Merelee Altom and husband Joe; brother, Bill Slomchinski and wife Gail, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She will also be dearly missed by all her friends and extended family at Silvertree Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Schertz, Texas who cared for here for 15 years.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Philomena Slomchinski and sister, Arlene Seay.
Janice was born on March 15, 1940, the second of 6 children. Janice was a 1958 graduate of Pleasanton High School and during her Senior year (1957-1958) served as Student Council President. This year was especially crucial in the history of Pleasanton and Texas because Pleasanton ISD peacefully integrated negro students into the school. Janice was interviewed for the local and national news outlets and felt honored to be included in this piece of history. Janice was also a very competitive athlete and part of the 1958 girls' basketball team that went to the playoffs in the regional finals. (Her love of the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys was die hard!) These are just a couple of the highlights from a very successful high school career in which she excelled.
After high school she worked for Exxon Corporation for approximately 15 years. During this period, she married and had the joy of her life, her son Russell Wayne Wenzel. She lived most of her years in Leming, Texas raising her son Russell until 2006 when she moved to Silvertree Nursing and Rehabilitation in Schertz, Texas. Being a mother was Janice's greatest passion. Russell was the gift that she had been waiting for all her life and she never missed a moment of any of his activities. She was Russell's biggest fan, cheerleader, and supporter. She carried that on with her grandchildren, Grace and Hope as long as she was mobile. Janice will be missed greatly as her impact on her family was great. May Eternal Rest Be Upon Her Always.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 26, 2021, from 4-7pm with a Rosary to be recited at 6pm, at St. Lukes Catholic Church, 3930 FM 536, Pleasanton 78064.
