Margie
Rutherford
Jan 25, 1943 — Nov 14, 2022
Jourdanton
Margie Rutherford, 79, passed away at her home, on November 14, 2022, in Jourdanton. She was born January 25, 1943, in Floresville, to William and Bertha (Stobb) Koenning.
She met Jim Rutherford of Jourdanton at the Atascosa Livestock Exchange and as the story goes, she fell in love with his Army jacket before she fell in love with him. They were married on July 27, 1961 and raised 11 children together.
Margie started working at Jourdanton ISD in the cafeteria then in the copy center. She retired after 34 years of driving her beloved school bus. If there was an out-of-town trip requiring a bus, Mrs. Rutherford was behind the wheel.
Her love for children was apparent in her own children and grandchildren, as well as every child who ever met her, and whoever ate one of her fried fruit pies was a fan for life! She would stay up half the night making them for the FFA Banquet every year.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Rutherford; her parents, William and Bertha Koenning; her son, Danny Oden; granddaughter, Carly Storm Garcia; and siblings, Dean Koenning, Mildred Braddy and Anita Ciomperlik
Margie is survived by her children, George Rutherford of Jourdanton, Anita Green and husband Craig of Floral, Arkansas, Jeanie Leland and husband Jeff of New Braunfels, Warren Rutherford and wife Cheryl of Caldwell, Roger Rutherford and wife Lisa of East Camden, Arkansas, Elizabeth Rutherford of San Antonio, Clint Rutherford and wife Amanda, Melissa Rutherford, Daniel Taylor Rutherford, all of Jourdanton and Justine Kitchens and husband Aaron of Round Rock; siblings, Dorothy Rauch, Janelle Richards, Bill Koenning and wife Jo Carolyn, all of Floresville, Bertha Kotzur, and Eleanor Walpole, both of San Antonio. Survivors also include 25 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, with another great-granddaughter due in March of 2023.
The family requests that all attendees wear red in her honor, because she loved red and her Jourdanton Indians!
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Hurley Funeral Home, starting at 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Hurley Funeral Home, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Jourdanton City Cemetery.
