Herrera
Nov 16, 1958 — Feb 27, 2023
Poteet
It is with great love and profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend Abelino G. Herrera (64). He passed on Monday, February 27, 2023 in San Antonio, with his family by his side. Abelino was born on Sunday, Nov 16, 1958, in Ruby, Texas to Nicasio E. Herrera and Elvira (Gonzales) Herrera.
Abelino is preceded in death by his parents, Nicasio E. Herrera and Elvira G. Herrera and brothers, Nicasio G. Herrera II, Roman G. Herrera and Albert G. Herrera.
Abelino is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Virginia Estrada Herrera; children, Michael Herrera (Yvonne), Sylvia Finney (Keshawn), Roy Herrera; brothers, Samuel G. Herrera (Nelida), Adam G. Herrera, Augustin G. Herrera (Amy), Joe G. Herrera; sisters, Felice H. Aguilar (Gregorio), Rosa H. Aguilar (Blas), Diana H. Gonzales (Valdemar), Mary H. Baeza (Asael), Eva G. Herrera; grandchildren, Catalina L. Herrera, Celestine L. Herrera, Darien L. Herrera, Eliana H. Finney, Ian H. Finney and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Abelino was a strong and humble man who greatly enjoyed being the patriarch of his family making quality time with them a priority. He enjoyed a calm peaceful and simple life usually outside watering his plants, tending to the yard and caring for home projects. A great weekend usually involved having friends, family and Grandkids over for a comfortable get together in the patio area he custom made with a fire going and Tejano music playing well into the evening. He looked forward to spending his birthdays and New Year each year surrounded by those he loved. He enjoyed being a supportive uncle, cousin, brother, husband, father and friend. Always willing to lend a thoughtful and helping hand or an ear to listen without judgement and sage advice well beyond his years, many would say he's always been a bit of an old soul. He had many nick names and from "Benny" at work, to "Bones" or "Uncle Eio" from his nieces and nephews to, "Belo and A bel" as names of endearment from his wife to "Belino" and Abel.
He was a jack of all trades master of many including Master Carpenter. Having spent 45 years in the trade starting at age eighteen and eventually owning and operating his own contracting business doing fine work and finishing in new home builds for Hill Country Classic Homes. That include mantles, spiral staircases, cabinetry, doorways, raised ceilings and more. His unique skill set allowed him to build entire homes, additions, patios, decks including all fine woodwork and finishing as well.
He enjoyed his trade and made an endless list of projects for friends and family from life size doll houses for his grandkids and daughter to the arch, cake stands, dancefloor, and more for his daughter's wedding. As well as, intricate birdhouses that looked like a Cathedral, Noah's Arc and many others. He helped his family and friends with home projects and any other work that needed to be done always ready with the tools, expertise, and experience to get the job done.
More importantly he was a practicing Christian who applied the Lord's commandments in his life, always helping those who needed help most with a giving and generous heart he selflessly gave of himself. His company and companionship will be greatly missed by many.
Abelino will be celebrated, honored and remember for a life-well lived.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Elias H. Aguilar, Roland H. Aguilar, Adamson Herrera, Miguel Chavez Jr., Deshaun Aguilar, Armando Martinez.
