Alex Jake Martinez, 3, fought his final battle on May 30, 2023.  He was born on August 5, 2019 in San Antonio, TX to Anthony Martinez and Clarissa Rodriguez.  Alex was a firecracker with a huge personality, some may say he was "the boss", or at least he thought he was.  He was born with a heart condition and received his first heart transplant when he was only four months old and received his second heart transplant when he was two.  He was a fighter though, and he never let his sickness get him down.  Alex was a beam of light to all that he met.  With his gorgeous dimples, he could control the room with just a smile or one of his many crazy expressions.  His doctors adored him, and he was nicknamed the "million-dollar baby" and affectionately referred to as "Dr. Dryers' baby".  He loved riding around in the Ranger, feeding the cows with his grandpa, playing outside, and always wearing his little Crocs; dirty feet came with the territory.  He loved his puppies and would always say he had to hurry back to Grandpa's because his puppies were crying for him. Although young, he had an old spirit.  He touched so many lives and he never met a stranger.  He would talk to anyone and if you would not respond he would kindly repeat himself until you did.  Alex will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his great-grandparents Simon Rodriguez Sr, Pilar and Antonia Herrera, Cresenciana and Martin Ramos; and great-uncle Valdemar Herrera Sr.  Alex is survived by his mother Clarissa Rodriguez; father Anthony Martinez; brother Anthony "AJ" Martinez; sister Adrianna Martinez; great grandma Santos "Sandy" Rodriguez; grandparents Reynaldo and Isabel Rodriguez, Velma Herrera and partner Gilbert Guzman and Dolores Martinez; aunts and uncles Vanessa and JR Herrera, Regina Rodriguez and Cristian Arellano, Marina "Mimi" Rodriguez, Tina and Paul Blanquiz and Monica Martinez; cousins Rhylynn Rodriguez, Joseph, Veronica and Laura Herrera, Paul, Tila, Ryan, Joel and Aaron Blanquiz, Nathan, Renee, Mathew, Natalie, and Madylynn Martinez; and numerous other relatives.

Services for Alex are scheduled for next Thursday, June 8, 2023, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, starting with visitation from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm, followed by a mass at 12:00 pm. Burial will be at Esparza Cemetery.
