Obituary

Alice Luella Mims was born February 23, 1931, in Poteet, Texas to Graham White and Roberta Lauderdale White. She was affectionately known to everyone as Lue.

Lue attended the community school in Verdi before graduating from Pleasanton High School in 1948. She waitressed at Fred's Cafe in Pleasanton before being introduced to a handsome former sailor, William S. "Bill" Mims, who worked in the oil fields with her brother, Dalton. After six weeks of dancing and movies, they married on February 25, 1950, and were together 59 years before his death.

Their journey together took them to Sinton, Jourdanton, Seguin, Stockdale, Oklahoma, Arkansas, San Antonio, and Pleasanton. During those years seven children were born. Lue's life calling was motherhood, but she also at times worked as a telephone operator, glove factory seamstress, and assisted Bill in their oil lease business as secretary and bookkeeper. She also established several antique businesses through the years where she made many friends. She was still busy raising the last of their seven children when they were blessed with the first of many grandchildren.

Life was busy and filled with many large and loud family gatherings, especially at Christmas which brought Lue much joy. She and Bill traveled to hundreds of ball games through the years in support of all the grandkids. Lue loved babies and children, flowers, poetry, old country music, fishing, and cooking for her family. She was known for making the best meals even when the pantry had little stock. She was good natured, genuine, and kind. She loved people and they were drawn to her sweet nature. She gave so much of herself in loving and caring for others and never complained or asked for anything in return. She leaves a legacy of patience, quiet perseverance, devotion, kindness, and how to simply love.

Lue passed away on September 22, 2023, at her home in Pleasanton with family present at the age of 92 – a long life lived well.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill and daughter, Ada, as well as her parents, Graham and Roberta, and all her siblings: her twin infant brother Paul, Velma Miller, Joyce Savage, Dalton White, Kathryn Wiley, and Bill White.

She is survived by her children: Ava Shaffer and husband Tom, Ann David, son Doy Mims and wife Karen, Amy Porter and husband Norman, Aby Baskette, and Audra Cupit. She is also survived by cherished grandchildren who lovingly called her Mammers: Daylon Shaffer, Derik Shaffer, Dale Ray David, Bryan David, Jessi Brymer, Justin David, Melanie Spence, Erica Stillwell, Daniel Mims, Nolan Porter, Erin Wells, Ross Porter, Makinley Gittings, Madison Gittings, Jarred Bell, Riley Hubert, Cabe Cupit, and Asa Cupit, as well as 33 great grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

She was lovingly cared for by Olivia Trevino, Donna Carswell, and Christie Endrich.
