Antonio B. Rivera Jr., lifelong resident of Poteet, Texas, left this world peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in his home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 83 years, 6 months, 27 days. He was born August 14, 1941, in Kennedy, Texas to Antonio Rivera Sr. and Porfiria Briseno Rivera.

He dedicated his life to being a hardworking man. He started at an early age working in the fields up until he was twenty when he started working at HB Zachary as a Journeyman for 11 years. He then started his own company, Tony Rivera Construction/AR Rebar, where he mentored numerous young men to become rodbusters. When driving around in Texas, it is highly probable you will drive over a bridge built by Antonio and his brothers. Not only was he known for being a renowned rodbuster, but also for his love and passion for classic cars where he bonded with his many children and grandchildren.

His hobbies included fishing with his sons, grandkids, and brothers, being surrounded by family, watching telenovelas and western movies, listening to music, and traveling. He was a devoted member of Templo La Hermosa in Poteet, overseen by Pastor Anibal and Mirtha Roche. Above all, he was the heartbeat of the family constantly guiding and nurturing each member.

Mr. Rivera is survived by his children, Alicia Rivera Guerra and husband Armando Guerra, Alex Rivera and wife Sandra Rivera, all of Poteet, Texas, Criselda R. Gonzales and husband Ramon Gonzales of Andrews, Texas, Sylvia R. Salazar and husband Sahin Salazar of Poteet, Carlos Antonio Rivera of Austin, Texas, Peggy Sue Maldonado and husband Raymond Maldonado of Mesquite, Texas, Tony Rivera and wife Adel Rivera and Jeanna Cordova and husband Edward Cordova, all of Tyler, Texas, Steve Rivera and wife Yesenia Rivera, and Zachary Rivera and wife Alexandra Rivera, all of Post, Texas; his siblings, Celestino Rivera and Maria Rivera† of Kyle, Texas, Ruben Rivera and wife Carol Rivera, Rudolpho Rivera, Gertrudes Rivera and Ernest Perez, Jesse Rivera, and sister-in-law, Maria Rivera, all from Poteet; 35 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Rivera was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Alicia G. Rivera; his parents, Antonio and Porfiria Rivera; his two sons, Paul Rivera, and Manuel Rivera; granddaughter, Tiffany Cordova; and brother, Juan Rivera.

Musical Escort is led by grandson Ezequiel Rivera.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, John David Rivera, Michael Guerra, Alejandro Rivera, Noel Gonzales, Matthew Gonzales, and great-grandson, Jaythan Luebano.

Though our hearts ache with the loss of our dad, grandpa, and brother, we take comfort in knowing that his love will continue to guide us, and we carry his spirit with us every day. His legacy will live on in the countless memories shared by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will always be loved, always remembered, and forever missed.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Mr. Rivera's beloved granddaughter, Leila Guerra, whose unwavering devotion, and selflessness were a source of comfort during this difficult time. In the face of heartbreak, Leila was a constant presence, providing exceptional care and support without ever leaving his side. From countless hours in the hospital to sleepless nights, she remained a steadfast pillar of strength. Her love and dedication to Mr. Tony were beyond measure, and there are no words that can fully express our gratitude for the sacrifices she made. Leila brought him peace in his last moments and for that, we are eternally grateful.

Services for Mr. Rivera are scheduled for Monday, March 17, 2025, starting with a visitation at Hurley Funeral Home, from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm.  Tuesday, March 18, 2025, a funeral service will start at 10:00 am at Hosanna Baptist Church, located at 237 School Drive, Poteet, Texas 78065, followed by burial at San Pedro Cemetery.
