Averil McCaughan Adams-Faulkner, a lifelong resident of Poteet, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 28, 2026, at the remarkable age of 100 years and seven months.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis McCaughan and Caroline Williams McCaughan; her infant daughter, Ava Rene Adams; her son, Bobby Adams of Poteet; and her husbands, Robert "Bob" Adams, to whom she was married for more than 55 years, and Calvin Ray Faulkner, whom she married at the age of 78 and with whom she shared 12 years.

Averil is survived by her daughter, Michelle Adams McLean (Ryan) of Poteet; her five grandchildren, Curtis Adams (Wanda) of Poteet, Cheryl Adams Feathers of Poteet, Welsey Stevens (Leah) of Poteet, Rolana Bourland of Memphis, Tennessee, and Kyna Mclean Garza (Steve) of San Antonio; along with seven great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.

A devoted homemaker, Averil had a lifelong love of sewing, crocheting, and crafting of all kinds. While she was very much a homebody, she came alive on the open road, traveling the country with her husband in one of their many RV trips. Those years were filled with adventure, friendship, and countless memories, whether traveling with others or striking out on their own.

In 1956, as a young woman, Averil joined the Eastern Star, where she dedicated decades of service. She held every elected office, including Worthy Matron more times than could be counted. She especially cherished her time working alongside fellow members at the Order of the Eastern Star Strawberry Shortcake Booth during the annual Poteet Strawberry Festival, continuing well into her 80s. In April 2006, she was proudly presented with her 50-year pin from the Order of the Eastern Star.

Averil's life was one of devotion-to her family, her community, and the organizations she loved. Her warmth, creativity, and steadfast spirit will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Hurley Funeral Home, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a graveside service on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet, starting at 10:00 am.
