It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Axel Clarence Hanson Jr., who departed this life on May 30, 2025, at the age of 72, after a courageous battle with cancer. Axel was born November 14, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas, and spent his final years in Poteet, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family.

Axel's life was a testament to love, dedication, and resilience. He was a devoted husband to Sara Hanson, with whom he shared a beautiful journey for 30 years. Together they had a beautiful family, raising five beloved children: Axel III, Sarah, Cleveland, Austin, and Daniel. He took immense pride in being their father and later as a grandfather to Conner and Liam, whose laughter and joy filled his heart.

He was proceeded in death by his beloved brother Glen, his sister Lillian, and his parents, Antonia and Axel Sr.

He is survived by his sister Linda, and in sister-in-law Diane, along with a host of extended family who will miss his kind spirit.

Throughout his life, Axel's faith remained a cornerstone. He served as an elder and teacher at the Atascosa and Yancy Seventh-Day Adventist Churches. His passions included woodworking, music, and family trips.

Axel's kind presence, spirit, and love for family gatherings will be profoundly missed.

Services are scheduled for Monday, June 9, 2025, with a visitation starting at 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with a funeral service on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, starting at 10:00 am.  All services will be held at Hurley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet.
