Barbara Marie Land was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 17th, 2025 in her 94th year of life. Barbara was born on August 26th, 1930 to Jesse Gilbert Chesnut and Frances Emma Pratt in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Barbara Marie spent her childhood growing up with her beloved grandparents, the Rev. John Archie and Grace Mae Strother Pratt and Samuel Edward and Daisy Belle Gilbert Chesnut in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.

Barbara was awarded a prestigious scholarship and was recognized as the youngest graduate, in 1951, at the Santa Rosa Division of Nurses at Incarnate Word College. While there, she was surprised by her brother, Jesse "Gene" Chesnut, who was stationed at Fort Sam Houston Military Base. Barbara recalled fondly how "Gene" would give her a few dollars to buy material to sew herself a new dress, and she would have a nickel left over to buy a Coke as they walked past the Joske's windows.

On June 2, 1951, Barbara married the love of her life, Manuel Arvil Land, at Coker Methodist Church in San Antonio with whom she was happily married to for 69 glorious years before his passing in 2021. Together, they had four beloved children. Barbara and Manuel made their home in San Antonio where Barbara worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) for the San Antonio Independent School District. In 1974, the Lands moved to Pleasanton where they enjoyed their involvement in the Pleasanton Country Club. Barbara took great pride in her role as matriarch that included the titles of "Mom", "Nurse Land" to friends and family near and far, and eventually her treasured role of "Nana", with the birth of her first grandchild in 1980.

Barbara was able to retire from SAISD in 1994 after serving for 30 years as a school nurse. She then quickly immersed herself in The Women's Club of Pleasanton where she played an active role in community service projects and made dear friends. She continued as an active member of the Atascosa County Community until 2022 when she moved to Montgomery, Texas with her daughter, Cynthia and son-in-law Mike.

Barbara is survived by her four devoted children, sons John Arvil (Donna) and Paul Arnold (Debi), daughters Cynthia Marie Klorer (Mike), and Grace Ann Land. Grandchildren include Jessica Gayle Stanush (Francis), Lindsey Ann Taylor (Kevin), Paul Eric (Amber) and Jordan James. Great-Grandchildren, Sofia, John, Carolyn, Laney, Emma, Scarlet, Stormy, Isabella and Jordan James Jr. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Bobby (Dolly), and sister-in-law Alma Jo Ferguson, as well as a host of other family members and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Manuel, her parents, brother, Jesse Eugene Chesnut and daughters-in-law Donna Gayle Burris Land and Debbi Land, Brothers in law Clifton (Norma), Cleatus, Jake (Helen)and Buddy Ferguson, Sister-in-laws Mildred Kennedy (William Audrey), Juanita Elswick (Thurmond), Jimmy Atkinson (Harold), and Jean Allen (Gene).

She is deeply loved and will be truly missed by all those who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Texas on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 11am, and interment will follow at Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet, Texas. Dr. Jason Fullerton, the Land's great nephew, will officiate over the service.
