Barbara Jones
Ricks
Jul 18, 1935 — Dec 17, 2022
San Antonio
Barbara Jones Ricks, born July 18,1935 to Lucille and Frank Jones in San Antonio, Texas. She grew up in Alamo Heights and graduated from there in 1953, she then graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1957. Barbara was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
She married Lee Ricks, Jr. on December 22, 1956, at Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio. After Lee's discharge from the Army, in February of 1958, they moved to Pleasanton.
Barbara had a beautiful singing voice and was very generous in sharing it with the community at weddings, church, and funerals, never accepting any compensation.
She was a "people person" and considered any kind of social gathering a "party". She was very active in the community and was voted "Woman of the Year" in 1971.
She was also very active in the Methodist Church where she held just about every office in the church, especially as choir director for several years. She and Lee enjoyed singing for the nursing homes with the Methodist Singers, which she also directed.
Barbara loved golf and played for many years in the ladies' Golf Club at the Pleasanton Country Club. She also enjoyed traveling and playing other courses with friends, Jean Grubaugh, Goldie Richter, and Joan Macleod.
Barbara and Lee met on a blind date at U.T. the first week of college in 1953. This was the beginning of a 69-year love story. They loved to travel and were fortunate to go to many European countries, as well as Bermuda, Jamaica, Hawaii, and Mexico. Many of these were painting trips to scenic locations. Also special to her were the many times spent with the family at the coast house in Port Aransas.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lucille Jones and brothers, Frank Jr. and Bobby. She is survived by her husband, Lee Jr. and sons, Lee III & wife Jan, Randy and wife Leslie, and Fletcher & wife Becky as well as grandchildren, Jessica (John) McDonald, Lauren (Will) Griffin, Lee Ricks IV, Sarah (Kevin) Aniol, Christopher (Brittany) Ricks, Emily (Raf) Rodriguez, & Julie Ricks, as well as eleven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Laura Villareal (New Century Hospice}, Liz Guerra, Diane Castano and Ramona Sanchez for their help during the last 2 years.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, P O Box 187, Pleasanton, Texas 78064 or the charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held for Barbara on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the Methodist Church with visitation from 10 to 11 and the service from 11 to 12.
