Bertha Ann Slomchinski earned her angel wings on November 10, 2023, in Leming at the age of 81. She was born on January 9, 1942, in Leming.  She was the third of six children born to Wallace and Philomena (Stanush) Slomchinski.

She graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1959. She was an active member of the Eagle Band, the Pleasanton Chapter of Future Homemakers of America, the Thespian Club, a basketball player, and many other school activities.  After completion of high school, she graduated from Draughon's Business College in San Antonio, Texas. She excelled in shorthand and used it all her life.

Her first job was with Durham Insurance Company, and she also had a part time job as a bartender for the San Jacinto Club. She went to work for the Alamo National Bank in San Antonio for many years. Later, she became a private secretary at the request of one of the bank's clients. She was approached by a Dowell Superintendent to go to work for them, which began her oil industry career. She started in Jourdanton where the company was initially located before they moved their headquarters to Leming. She was then transferred to the Houston and Baytown areas before returning to Leming. Dowell was acquired by Schlumberger, and she eventually retired with them after several years of dedicated service. After retirement, she returned to work for them in the Dispatch Department in Leming.

Bertha was a long-time member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Loire and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Leming and was a very active and faithful parishioner of both. She served the Lord well. Bertha loved music and was one of the founding members of the County Line Community Band where she played clarinet. She also loved to play in special music program events which included the San Antonio Pop Orchestra. She loved her family dearly, and always remembered the birthdays of all her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Wallace and Philomena (Stanush) Slomchinski., her sister Arlene Seay, sister Janice Wenzel, and brother-in-law David Bates.

She is survived by her sister Ellen Bates of Marion, sister Merelee Altom and husband Joe of McKinney, brother Bill Slomchinski and wife Gail of Leming and brother-in-law Jimmy Seay of Pleasanton as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and numerous friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt and special thanks to Bertha's caretaker and companion, Leslie Cromie and daughter Lillee Schwartz, and the amazingly wonderful staff of Trinity Hospice.

Services will begin on Monday, November 20, 2023, in the Hurley Funeral Home chapel, starting at 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a reciting of the rosary at 7:00 pm.  A mass will be celebrated on Tuesday November 21, 2023 at St. Luke Catholic Church Loire, located at  3930 FM 536, Pleasanton, Texas 78064, starting at 10:00 am followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Leming.
