It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bettie Jean Riley, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed from this life on May 25, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on February 6, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas, Bettie spent her later years in Rockport and Uvalde, Texas, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her.

Bettie dedicated an extensive part of her professional life to serving the community as a retired employee of the State of Texas, working within the AFDC program to provide essential food assistance to families in need. Her unwavering commitment to her work mirrored her values, which revolved around family first, followed by her church, and then herself. As the eldest of four siblings, Bettie learned the virtues of nurturing and love at an early age, skills that she honed and expanded upon throughout her life.

A devoted mother to her sons, Bettie was the heart and soul of her family. She ensured that her loved ones were always cared for, displaying an exceptional talent as a cook who brought warmth and comfort to family gatherings. In her retirement, Bettie and her loving husband traveled across the country in their fifth wheel, often with a grandchild in tow, creating memories that would last a lifetime. They shared simple joys together, from fishing trips to leisurely walks along the pier, celebrating both life's big moments and the everyday joys.

Bettie was a radiant presence, capable of lighting up any room with her laughter and grace. To many children in her community, she was a "grandma" figure, offering love and compassion abundantly. Alongside her husband, she sponsored the Silver Star group at their church, leading trips and activities that further strengthened their faith community. Bettie's love for games, laughter, and lightheartedness was infectious, reminding everyone around her to cherish every moment.

Bettie's methodical approach to managing her home finances ensured that her husband could focus on their ranch and the cattle they raised together, exemplifying her commitment to their shared life and partnership.

A visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home on May 29, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. With funeral services 11:00 am. Saturday, May 30, 2026 at the Pleasanton Church of Christ.  She will be laid to rest following the service at Pleasanton City Cemetery.

As we gather to honor her memory, we invite all who knew and loved Bettie to join us in celebrating a life rich in love, laughter, and kindness. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives she touched.

Bettie was preceded in death by: Husband Charles Riley; sons Charles Steven Riley and Michael Todd Riley; parents Clarence and Marjorie Morris; brother Richard Morris and sister Kathleen Wilson.

Bettie is survived by her sons Kevin (Whitney) Riley and Brian (Marci) Riley; brother Kenneth (Jill) Morris; grandchildren Brucks Alden, Charlie Riley, Cameron Alden and Amanda Medina; great-grandchildren Evelyn Whitney Alden, Ella Alden and CJ Alden.
