She loved to create meals for her family, often trying new recipes. Her grandchildren always looked forward to her cookies and desserts as well as the social clubs she participated in. When her youngest daughter reached school age, she attended Cosmetology School in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and worked as a certified beautician for several years, before Charles transferred to Gretna, Louisiana.
Always the adventuring spirit, Betty, Charles, and their children lived in Tangjun, Indonesia for a year, which took place while Charles worked for Royal Dutch Shell.
