Brenda Raye Schirmer was called to her heavenly home to begin her eternal life, on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at her home in Pleasanton, Texas, at the age of 80.  She was born in Poteet, Texas at the Shotts Memorial Hospital.

Brenda is survived by her husband of 50 years, Timothy Schirmer of Pleasanton, TX; son Mark Sanders of Erath, LA and his daughter Traci York and her son Richard, and son Joey Sanders and wife Victoria and children Jayden and Macy Raye; son Todd Sanders and wife Sabrina of Round Rock, TX and their sons, Payton and Ryan; sisters Martha Ann Schultz and husband Larry "Dutch" of Waco, TX and son Rodney; Wanda Jane Mayes of Canyon Lake, TX and her sons Wesley and Walter Draker; and brother Dennis Jay Mayes and wife Sharon of Kerrville, TX and sons Dennis George and wife Crystal, Jason and wife Emily, Matthew and wife Heather, and daughter Courtney and husband Chris; brother-in-law Dennis Schirmer and wife Loretta and daughter Kara and husband Wayne Musselman, and son Byron and wife Katie; her aunt Marie (Wiley) Chisum-Morris; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Preceding Brenda in death were her dearly beloved parents Ray and Willie Mae (Wiley) Mayes; maternal grandparents Walter "Dick" and Martha "Frankie" (Rader) Wiley of Christine, Texas; and paternal grandparents William Henry and Annie Bessie (Nelson) Mayes of San Antonio, Texas.

Brenda was deeply cherished and loved by her siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and they all affectionately called her either "Gaga Beka", "Aunt Beka" or "Beka".  She even had a sandwich named after her, by her grandchildren… it didn't matter what the contents were, it just had to be cut into the "Gaga Beka style" which was cut into 4 squares.

Brenda loved The Lord and her family.  Brenda was a faithful supporter of the Christine United Methodist Church of Christine, Texas. She joyfully filled-in as a Sunday School teacher when needed. This was her childhood church that her grandfather, Dick Wiley "Papa" founded and gathered together its original congregation, and continued until his death, keeping the church and congregation strong in the work of Our Lord and The Word, which Brenda was so proud to be a descendant of.

Dear to Brenda, were her cherished cousins:  From the Wiley side- Frances (Wheeler) Michael, Lee Wheeler, Larry Wheeler; Mac Smith; Gwen (Chisum) Walter, Lloyd Chisum, Patti (Chisum) Powell.  From the Mayes/Thomas side- Carl Mayes, Carole (Mayes) Dooley, Gerald Wayne Mayes; Janis (Mayes) Parris, Jimmy Mayes, Joy (Mayes) McCulley; Joyce (Thomas) Castleberry, Bobby Thomas, and Ellen (Thomas) Quick.  Brenda had such a close relationship with her cousin Frances, having daily phone calls with her, and also with Mac since he and his mother, Lou Emma (Wiley) Smith, lived with Brenda and her Mother while their fathers were away from home during WWII.

A visitation will be Friday, February 17, 2023, starting at 10:00 AM with the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Hurley Funeral Home located at 118 West Oaklawn in Pleasanton, Texas. Burial service will follow at 1:30 PM at San Fernando III located 1735 Cupples Rd, San Antonio, TX.
