BurtAdam " Bird" Martinez,74, of Poteet, passed away peacefully at his ranch home surrounded by his family on January 11, 2023. He was born on September 14, 1948 in Poteet Texas, to Margarito and Elida Limon Martinez. He was one out of 10 children, and a friend to many.
BurtAdam was a hard worker, starting very young, selling watermelons door-to-door, working at "Wilford's" A local gas station back in the day, and a majority of his career was dedicated to being a carpenter for more than 37 years. He took great pride in his work and made sure it was all done OSHA approved!
In his spare time, he enjoyed buying real estate, cattle, and horses. He was a great storyteller! He loved a cold beer, a pack of cigarettes, and good company. BurtAdam also loved music, singing, and playing the guitar. He also loved passing the time cruising the back roads of Atascosa county. He was the best grandfather anyone could ever ask for, he loved his children and his grandchildren unconditionally and with his whole heart. He loved his nieces and nephews unconditionally and without judgment.
BurtAdam is preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert L. Martinez, brother Rudy L. Martinez, and brother Ralph L. Martinez. He is survived by his ex-wife of 41 years, Olivia B. Olivares, children: Margaret Escamilla and husband Alex, Michael Paul Martinez and wife Perla, grandchildren; Troy and wife Samantha, TreyElizabeth, Shaneil, Slone Alyse, Alexandria & Great grandson Marky. Brothers: Gilbert L Martinez and wife Betty, and Richard L. Martinez, and sisters: Erlinda L Martinez And husband Ernest, Aurora L. Martinez, Josephine L Martinez, and Juanita L Martinez., and numerous nieces and nephews

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the reciting of the rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home. Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023, at St. Philip Benzie catholic Church-Poteet. With burial at First Memorial Park.
