Obituary

Clare L. Herrington of Pleasanton passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025 at her residence. She was born in Higgins, Texas, to Samuel S. and Mary Louise (Schneider) Schafer on Saturday, June 25, 1921.

Her father, Samuel, immigrated from Russia to the United States in the late  1800's. He settled in Marion County, Kansas and became a citizen of the United States of America in 1896. In November of 1900, he met and married her mother, Mary Louise Schneider, of Kansas. They settled in Lipscomb County, Texas, where Clare, the youngest of eight children, was born.

Clare proudly served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946 where she obtained the rank of Corporal. She married Hugh Herrington on June 12, 1948 in Amarillo, Texas. She enjoyed playing golf, doing crossword puzzles, reading, and gardening. Clare especially loved cats. After settling in Pleasanton in 1980, she and Hugh purchased an RV, loaded up their cat, Tiger, and the three of them set off to travel throughout the United States and Canada. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 73 years, Hugh Herrington.

Visitation and funeral services will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, on Saturday, December 6, 2025, with visitation starting at 9:00 am, the service at 11:00 am. The interment will follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Jourdanton.
