CW Russell, 95, of Schertz, Texas passed away on July 25, 2023. A graveside service will be held at the Rutledge Cemetery, 1735 Rutledge Rd, in Poteet, TX on Saturday, August 5th at 10:00 am. with arrangements made by Hurley Funeral Home of Pleasanton. The service will be officiated by Rev. Ryan Russell, CW's grandson, with the eulogy by Dr. Gene Russell, CW's brother. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

CW was born in Poteet on February 6, 1928, to Carroll William and Pearl Crouch Russell. Upon graduation from Poteet High School, he attended Texas A&M for a short time, then joined the Army, serving in Korea.

On December 26, 1948, CW married Faye White. They spent almost 30 years in Los Fresnos, TX. Known as a hard worker, CW held a variety of jobs, including working as a telephone lineman, a longshoreman, and a pipefitter, where he worked in several states, including Alaska, Arkansas, and Tennessee. He also owned a couple of businesses, including a Mobil gas station and Lawns Plus.

As a Christian, CW was always active in a local church, having been ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church, Los Fresnos and serving as deacon chairman in that congregation. He loved to whistle, hum, or sing hymns as he went about his day. CW had a good sense of humor, was friendly and outgoing, and he never met a stranger. He also loved sports, especially football and baseball, and was a Little League coach for his sons' teams. In later years, CW and Faye enjoyed camping and playing games with friends.

CW was preceded in death by his parents, an infant great-grandson, Wyatt Russell, and a sister-in-law, Beverly Russell. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Faye Russell, his brother, Gene Russell and wife Margaret of Nacogdoches, TX, his children, Judy Wolter and husband Wayne of Universal City, TX, Roger Russell and wife Terri of Abilene, TX and Tracy Russell and wife Orell of Allen, TX.  He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Garrett Wolter and wife Katie, Kevin Wolter and wife Melissa, Barry Russell and wife Cortessa, David Russell and wife Kristina, Whitney Russell, Chase Russell and wife Julie, Joanna Russell, Ryan Russell and wife Raechel, and Nicholas Russell and wife Laynie. He has 16 great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his closest cousin, Bryan Crouch, who was more like a brother, and his wife Jean Carroll of Poteet.

A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Rutledge Cemetery, in Poteet, starting at 10:00 am.
