Obituary

It is with great sadness to announce the death of Dana Lynn Lucas of Pleasanton, Texas. Dana went home to meet her Lord on Monday, February 10th, 2025. She was 62 having been born on June 11th, 1962 at USMC Camp LeJuene in Jacksonville, North Carolina where her father Dale was stationed. The family moved to San Antonio, Texas about two years later.

Dana eventually called Pleasanton,Texas her home in the mid-1980's where she remained until her passing. Dana was employed by the United States Postal System as a highway contract route carrier for several years prior to her death. Dana was the oldest of three siblings. She graduated from Southside High School in San Antonio where she was active in 4-H, FFA, Pep Squad and Rodeo Club. She had an immeasurable love for all animals, but holding a special place in her heart was her horse, Buttercup and her poodles, Zsa Zsa and Prissy.

Dana's family is very large and close knit and a majority of her time was spent with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Dana was selfless and never met a stranger, she was always available to listen and help others, she truly shared in the joys or sadness of those who were fortunate enough to cross her path. Whether Dana was tending to a sick friend or relative, assisting an elderly neighbor, listening to other's worries, hosting baby showers, baking cupcakes for a school or family event and even taking in stray dogs and cats to ensure they found homes, Dana happily rose to the occasion. She liked to stay up on current affairs and she loved to read. She loved with all her heart and was a Mama Bear protector. If anyone in her orbit was caused pain, she was absolutely a force to be reckoned with.

Dana's most important and proudest roles in life were being a parent and a grandparent. Dana strove to make sure her children would be successful, kind and altruistic humans with old fashioned values. She was successful in that endeavor. Her beautiful grandchildren, Jackson, 10 and Grace, 8 provided Dana pure joy and she delighted in watching them develop and grow. She was involved in their lives and she was their biggest cheerleader. They loved and cherished her as well. Dana was a much loved daughter, mother, sister, aunt and friend and she will be profoundly missed.

Dana Lucas is survived by her children: daughters, Desirae Lucas and husband, Matthew Murphy and Devyn Lucas; son, Derek Lucas and wife, Shantell; brother, Dale "Bubba" Jackson Jr. and wife, Kim; sister, Denise Cowey and husband, Vernon; sister-in-law, DeeDee Newman and husband, Richard; brother-in-law, Timmy Lucas; grandchildren, Jackson and Grace; nieces and nephews, Jarrett, Garrett, Brianna, Hannah, Houston Hailey, Chrissy, David and Kathryn; and Dana's former husband, Darrell Lucas; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
