Our beloved Daniel William Kessler, a cherished husband, devoted father, doting grandfather, and a dear friend to many, peacefully passed away on January 11, 2024, at the Frank M. Tejada Veterans Home in Floresville, at the age of 81. Born at home on a dairy farm on February 5, 1942, in San Antonio, Daniel brought joy and laughter to all those who knew him. He was baptized, confirmed, and strong in his faith.

Daniel was a man of many passions, with hunting being one that truly defined him. His love for hunting was infectious and spread to his family, prompting them to invest in a property in Cotulla, where they shared memorable hunting trips together. His keenness for nature extended beyond hunting to caring for his vegetable garden and dear pets. Daniel loved bass fishing, swinging clubs on the golf course, and strumming tunes on his acoustic guitar. He would often entertain others with his original silly jingles and songs, bringing laughter and smiles to all. He also enjoyed games of poker, BINGO, pool, and Dominos, showcasing his competitive spirit and knack for good-natured fun. At home you could find him watching Western movies, Jeopardy, football, golf, and The Little League World Series – always betting on his favorite teams. In his younger years, Daniel actively participated in his community by coaching and umpiring Little League games. He enjoyed dancing to lively music and was known for his fancy footwork, captivating the dance floor wherever he went. However, his greatest joy came from spending quality time with his adored grandchildren, passing down his passion for the great outdoors as he taught them how to hunt and fish. Among his precious grandchildren, he shared a special bond with his beloved granddaughter, Shaye, who is autistic, providing her with unwavering love and support.

Daniel proudly served his country as a Boilerman Third Class Petty Officer in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1963. During his service, he spent time aboard the USS Jonas Ingram, touring during the Cold War. After his honorable discharge, he embarked on a successful career as an Operations Supervisor for the Medina Electric Company, ultimately joining the San Miguel team. Daniel dedicated many years of hard work to these organizations before retiring in 2004. Known for his contagious humor, outgoing nature, and generous spirit, Daniel had a heart that knew no bounds. He effortlessly made friends wherever he went and had a knack for making people laugh with his quick wit and playful jokes. His happy-go-lucky demeanor and willingness to lend a helping hand endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Daniel was a proud member of the first graduating class of Judson High School. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Judith, who would later become his wife. Their deep connection was undeniable, and they even had the honor of being crowned prom King and Queen, a memory that both cherished dearly.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin J. Kessler and Olga Hoelscher Kessler; brothers, Melvin J., Leroy, James L., and Herbert Kessler.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judith Jane Kessler; children, Daniel William Kessler Jr. (Mary Catherine), Dolores "Lori" Dawn Finke (Jeff) and Duane Patrick Kessler (K. Lori); grandchildren, Nathan Kessler (Jennifer), Clayton Kessler (Tyler), Shaye Lynn Boeker, Amber Renae Armstrong (Kyle); step-grandchildren, Martin Soward (Casey) and Caitrin Johnson (Todd); great-grandchildren Coltin, Case, Bradley Faith, and Wes Kessler; step-great-grandchildren, Donnie Soward, Terryn Soward, Cailyn Alderete (Zack), Roselyn Johnson and Adelyn Johnson; step-great-great-grandchild, Zaiden Alderete; brothers, Robert, Nolan and Kenneth Kessler; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

All services will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 beginning with visitation from 9:00 am-10:30 a.m., reciting of the rosary at 10:30 a.m. and funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home and Chapel – Pleasanton. Burial will follow at St Matthews Catholic Cemetery – Jourdanton. Afterwards, a light lunch will be offered at Civic Center – Jourdanton.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chris, Russell, Herbert, James, Clayton, and Nathan Kessler along with honorary pallbearers Walter Gipson and Ralph Kessler.
