David "Dave" Brian Murphy, 74, of San Antonio, Texas passed away after a brief battle with cancer at his residence on June 22, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 1, 1949, in Hamilton, Ohio to Cornelius "Neil" and Marie (Werner) Murphy.

Dave graduated from Badin High School ('67) in Hamilton, Ohio. He attended Bowling Green University ('67-'68) and then worked in the aeronautics department for General Electric (GE) in Cincinnati. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1969 as a Medical Corpsman and received both a National Defense Service Medal for serving during the Vietnam War and an Expert Rifle Badge (although he often joked that he had a hard time seeing the target). Because of his problem-solving abilities, he transferred to Military Information Support Operations (MISO) as a computer operator. Two weeks before his transition from Army to civilian life he met his wife of 49 years, Phyllis, in San Antonio where he was stationed at Fort Sam Houston. He moved back to Ohio to look for a job and decided Texas had the best to offer, including Phyllis. He arrived back in San Antonio in 1972 and started working at Benham-Blair & Affiliates (architects for the USAA building) as a draftsman. He started at San Antonio College in 1974 to become a computer programmer and obtained a position at Frost National Bank in 1976.  After many dedicated years and providing multiple suggestions for quality improvement, Dave retired in 1997 as an Assistant Vice President of Automation to live life on his terms.

Dave was very organized in everything he did and although he sometimes had a tough exterior, he was kind and soft-hearted. He loved watching old westerns, classic movies, restoration car shows and anything that was military related. He loved the music of the 60's and often played records for him and his family to enjoy. This love of music was carried on to both of his daughters. Some of his favorite memories include fishing with his friends, having an old 1965 GTO restored, spending time under the oak tree at the Stanush family farm, and taking road trips to visit family and different historical sites. He lived a simple life and most enjoyed a well-kept yard, relaxing in front of a fire (if 65 degrees or lower), making weekly trips to the grocery store, and collecting different items that were special to him. He loved the rain and serendipitously it rained the morning he passed away.

Dave was preceded in death by his daughter, Rachel Janel Murphy, parents, Cornelius "Neil" and Marie (Werner) Murphy; father and mother-in-law, Christian J. and Martha (Richter) Stanush, grandparents, Thomas and Ruth (Lyons) Murphy; Robert and Pearl (Stanton) Werner; brothers, Dennis Patrick Murphy and Stephen Michael Murphy; brothers-in-law, Alvin Stanush, Alfred Stanush, Wilfred Stanush, Charles Rice, Jacky Harrell, and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Stanush, Joyce Riddle, Mary Murphy and Regina Stanush.

Dave is survived by the love of his life for the last forty-nine years Phyllis (Stanush) Murphy, daughter, Megan Rodriguez husband Armando; brothers; Anthony "Tony" Murphy, Neil "Nicky" Murphy, and Robert "Robby" Murphy, sisters; Kathleen "Kathy" Murphy, Mary Asher (Ronnie), Eileen Murphy, Colleen Rowland (Kerry) and Cecilia "Ceci" Temple (Ricky); grandchildren, Daylen Williams, Remington Rodriguez, Xander Rodriguez and Korbin Lund. Brother-in-law Francis J Stanush; sisters-in-law JoAnne Rice and Mary Ann Harrell, and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank his medical team including Dr. John Sandercock, North Central Baptist Hospital and Embrace Hospice for the care they provided Dave during this brief time.

The family will accept family and friends July 6, 2023, starting at 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm at Hurley Funeral Home chapel in Pleasanton, Texas. Mass will be Friday July 7, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Andrew Catholic Church with interment to follow at St Andrew #1 in Pleasanton, Texas.
