Daylon R. Qualls

March 16, 1947 – August 1, 2024

Daylon Qualls, 77, passed away on August 1st, 2024. Born on March 16, 1947, in Poteet, Texas, and spent his youth in Pleasanton and Dallas, Texas.

Out of high school Daylon enlisted in the Navy in 1964 and was discharged in early September 1965 at the request of his mother under the sole-surviving-son policy as the only remaining son in the family.  Daylon spent most of his early working life in the oil & gas industry, and later as a dedicated truck driver for Swift Transportation for over two decades reveling in the freedom of the open road and the beauty of the landscapes he encountered. His appreciation for the world and all it had to offer was a testament to his adventurous spirit and deep love for life.

Throughout his life, Daylon found joy in the simple things—from tending to his garden and listening to classic rock, to spending precious moments with his grandchildren. A man of many talents, he had a passion for cooking, a love for his dogs, and a knack for brightening everyone's day with his witty sense of humor and corny jokes.

He is survived by daughter, Shannon Chaney; daughter, Dana Grinstead; son, Ted Qualls (Debra); daughter, Andi Gouger (Thomas); grandchildren, Blake Grinstead, Faith Qualls, Linden Chaney, Laurel Chaney, Thomas Gouger V, Carter Gouger; great-grandchildren, Theo Qualls-Rogge; sister, Patti Nix; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents, Theodore Qualls and Vera Neill Hull; brother, Ted Wayne Qualls; sister, Lois Maxwell Rolin; sister Shirley Qualls Conner; sister Janice Atwood.

Daylon's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. In honor of his life and legacy, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Brite Cemetery as we gather to pay tribute to a man who brought light and laughter to all those around him. May he rest in peace, knowing that his kindness and humor will be dearly missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bulverde County Humane Society in Daylon's memory.
