A Reflection on the Life of Dorothy Marie Bennight

Dorothy Marie Bennight, born on February 3, 1936, is a testament to a beautifully and selflessly lived life. A woman of unwavering faith, Dorothy's devotion to Christ and her commitment to being a servant of God have been her guiding light and an inspiration to all who know her. Through every season of her life, her faith remained steadfast—a cornerstone upon which she built a life filled with love, grace, and compassion.

As a strong wife and a dedicated mother, Dorothy exemplified the heart of a family. She nurtured her loved ones with her hands and heart, filling her home with warmth, wisdom, and an endless supply of encouragement. Her love extended far beyond her family, as she was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her generosity and kindness touched countless lives, leaving a lasting impact on her community.

Dorothy had a passion for the simple yet profound joys of life. Whether she was tending to her garden, preparing a meal filled with love, or marveling at the beauty of birds in flight, she found God's presence in the everyday. Her garden was not just a place of growth but a reflection of her nurturing spirit. Cooking for others became one of her love languages—a way to show care and create moments of togetherness. And in her love for bird watching, we see her appreciation for God's intricate and delicate handiwork.

But perhaps what stands out most is Dorothy's big heart. She lived with an openness that made everyone feel seen and valued. Her acts of kindness, whether grand or small, were done with sincerity and a deep sense of purpose.

As we walk through this tender season, we honor Dorothy not only for who she has been to us but for the legacy she leaves behind—a legacy of faith, love, and service. Dorothy Marie Bennight's journey is one of a servant's heart, a loving family's cornerstone, and a gardener of life's most precious seeds. May we honor her by carrying her light forward in our own lives, cherishing the lessons she has taught us and the love she has so freely given.

Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Bennight; her son, Steve Bennight (Janis Bennight); her grandchildren, Kyle Barfuss (Raesha Barfuss), Stevie Bennight (Alice Bennight), and Dustin Bennight; and her great-grandchildren, Brandon Barfuss, Annabelle Bennight, Bobby Bennight, and Valerie Bennight and nephew, Tim Voigt. Dorothy also leaves behind her cherished brothers and sisters: Sam Allen, James Otto Allen, John Frank Allen, Robert Lewis Allen, and her sisters Carol Blaske, Laura Olson, and Francis Voigt.

Dorothy was preceded in death by husband, John Bennight, parents, John Allen and Erna Sens Allen, daughter, Patricia Bennight, sister, Charlotte Riley and brother, Pete Allen.

Services are scheduled for Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Hurley Funeral Home, starting with a visitation at 1:30 pm followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm.  She will be buried in Pleasanton City Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
