Obituary

Emma Jean Yow Norment joined her Lord and Savior February 18, 2024 at the age of 89 years old. Jean as she was known to many family and friends was born October 8, 1934 in Poteet, Texas. She was the youngest of five children born to Ned and Emma Yow. Jean a Poteet native was a graduate of Poteet High School. While in school she had the honor of being crowned Poteet Strawberry Festival Queen in 1953. Jean was also a great softball player and she played in a league until she married her husband of 56 years Wayne Norment.

After Wayne and Jean married, she began her 36-year career in banking, with The First State Bank of Poteet which of course changed names many times throughout her career. Jean was also a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Poteet where she was active in many church activities. One of Jean's favorite past times was watching her favorite NBA team the San Antonio Spurs, and she would always look forward to attending the games.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Ned and Emma Yow; siblings, Melvin Yow, Alma Gasch, Doreen Smith, Betty Wood; husband, Wayne Norment; son, Julius "Bubba" Norment, and grandson, C. W. Norment.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Norment Kiser (James), and grandchildren, Denise Kiser Reddy (Duane), Kimberly Kay Kiser, Travis Kiser, Shane Norment, and Kattie Norment. Jean is also survived by 10 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the best Maw Maw a grandchild could ever ask for and she will be truly missed. Serving as pallbearers are, Austin Mendez, Duane Reddy, Trenton Kiser, Raylon Kiser, Travis Kiser, and Shane Norment.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at First Baptist Church, 437 Avenue D and 4th Street in Poteet. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at First Baptist Church in Poteet, with interment to follow in Shiloh Cemetery, on Shiloh Road off FM 1470, outside of Poteet.
