Enid Celeste Dear Swartzman
September 14th 1921 –June 5th 2024

Enid Celeste Dear was the 4th child born to Wales Patrick Dear and Culia Celeste Gillley Dear September 14th, 1921. in San Antonio Texas. She died June 5th, 2024, at the age of 102 years 8 months 5 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert Swartzman; sisters, Ruth Townsend Dear Irby Whitney, Naomi Pearl Dear Carlson, Florence Ivy Dear Schulenberg; brother, Wales Patrick Dear Jr.; stepson, James A. Gray; great grandson, Cameron Drewes; niece, Claudia Ruth Irby McBride; nephew, Kenneth Carl Carlson Jr, and niece, Donna Ruth Dear Deason.

She is survived by daughter–in-law, Gail Gray of Champaign Illinois; grand-daughter, Megan Gray Drewes; three great-grandsons, Chase, Coby, and Carson Drewes all of Thomasboro, Illinois; nieces, Patricia Swartzman Cook of Syracuse, New York, Susan Hubbell O'Donnell of Delmar, New York, Janet Hubbell Knapp of Vera Beach, Florida, Jennifer Carlson Perez of Kent, Washington; nephews, David W. Dear of Medina, Texas, Daniel L. Dear of Palestine, Texas, Dale F Schulenberg, Peter Swartzman, John S. Hower III of Saquoit, New York, and Robert Hubbell of Washington Mills, New York.

Enid Graduated from Harlandale High School in 1939 and worked in Hondo, Texas at the Air Force Navigation school, Kelly A.F.Base, Sheppard A. F. Base, and Lackland A.F. Base. In 1949, she transferred to the Far Eastern Air Material Command in Fuchu Japan, returning to Kelly A.F. Base after a year, where she met and married her husband, Herbert Joseph Swartzman in Whitesboro New York in 1952. After he was

Transferred, she returned to Japan where they lived in Higima, Japan then to Yokoto A.F. Base. Finally, to Tachikawa A.F. Base. Later he was transferred to Pape A.F. Base at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, then Lackland A.F. Base, and Sheppard A.F. Base. Then to Clark A.F. Base in the Philippines. Once retired, they lived in San Antonio before building in 1969 in Pleasanton, Texas.

When Enid was 7 years old, she gave her life to the Lord and was baptized in the Harlandale Baptist Church. After moving to Pleasanton, she moved her membership to First Baptist Church in Pleasanton. Enid has been a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. Joining in San Antonio and moving her membership to Pleasanton, where during these years she had been Worthy Matron twice.

Services will be held Monday, June 17, 2024, at Hurley Funeral Home, 118 W. Oaklawn in Pleasanton, Texas 78064, with visitation at 10am, and services at 12pm, following with interment at 2:30pm, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road in San Antonio Texas 78209.
