In Loving Memory of Eric Matthew Zuniga
August 24, 1970 - July 18, 2025

Eric, a proud United States Marine Corps veteran, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, son, brother, and dear friend, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025.

Eric lived his life with quiet strength, deep faith, and a genuine love for family and the outdoors. He found joy in simple things; hunting, fishing, cooking, and taxidermy, but even more in sharing those passions with the people around him. Whether teaching others to cast a line, trading recipes with hunting buddies, or striking up conversations with complete strangers, Eric had a gift for making people feel seen and connected.

He spent 34 beautiful years married to his soulmate and love of his life, Janet Pizel Zuniga. Their love began when they were just 18 and 19 years old, growing over the years into a bond rooted in friendship, loyalty, and deep affection. Together they raised three children, Erica Cheyenne White (Jeremy), Conor Lane Zuniga, and Kendall Faith Zuniga, instilling in them the values Eric held dear: respect, integrity, and honor.

Becoming a grandfather brought him a new kind of joy. With the arrival of twin grandsons, Ezra and Logan White, Eric's heart grew even fuller. He was excited to welcome new fishing and hunting buddies and looked forward to teaching them about nature, the outdoors, and riding horses. Being a "Popo" meant the world to him.

Eric is also lovingly remembered by his mother and stepfather, Mary Lou Gallegos Hasette and Tony Hasette. His father and stepmother, Raul and Maria Zuniga. He is survived by his brothers, Chris Zuniga and Roy Zuniga Jr, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends who will always carry his memory with them.

His loyal dogs, Gunner, who was always ready for the next truck ride or adventure, and Bo, who found peace just being near him, were by his side through it all.

Eric's legacy is alive in the values he lived by, the stories he shared, and the lives he touched. He reminded us all to live with passion, serve with honor, and love without reserve. Though he leaves a space no one else can fill, his spirit will always be present in the quiet of the woods, the stillness of the water, and the hearts of those who knew him.

Services are scheduled for Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Hurley Funeral Home starting with a visitation from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a reciting of the rosary at 7:00 pm. On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, a mass will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church starting at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow at 2:30 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
