Esther Mae (Deckert) Everett of Whitsett passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at the age of 75 after a long illness. She was born in San Antonio on December 4, 1947, to Elmo Ross and Bertha Mae Cumi (Weaver) Deckert. Esther and Nelson Everett grew up alongside each other in Whitsett, TX and later eloped to marry the loves of their lives, they were happily married for over 59 years, raising two children Debora and Alan. Esther was a long-term resident of Whitsett, TX, where she enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, gardening, cooking, and reading. She was known throughout the community and beyond; she was loved by many. She had a soft spot for "strays", both human and animal, often providing food and shelter to those in need. She was active in her community and served her church for many years. Esther was known for her loving heart and kindness without limit.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Bertha Deckert; sisters, Barbara Louise Deckert Thompson and husband ML, Shirley Ruth Deckert Ham and husband Clarence, and Earlene Cumi Deckert; brother, Frank "Jackie" Ross Deckert and sister-in-law, Florence "Flo" Jane Deckert.
Esther is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Nelson Lloyd Everett; daughter, Debora Ann Everett Hubka and husband Joseph; son, Alan Dwayne Everett; brother, Marvin Elmo Deckert; grandsons, Woodrow Charles "Wesley" Henderson II and wife Jennifer and Stephen Everett Henderson and wife Brittany; Cameron Wade Henderson; granddaughter, Madison Rae Hubka. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Kairi Sumamal Henderson, Kalel Oliver Flores Henderson, Cairo Sumamal Flores Henderson, Liberty Lyn Morris, and Justice Rayne Henderson; sister-in-law, Leona Beth Riley Deckert, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be conducted at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton on Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral service to be held at Whitsett Baptist Church on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 1:00 pm, followed by interment at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with a meal following at Whitsett Baptist Church. Pallbearers for Esther's service will be Wesley Henderson, Stephen Henderson, Cameron Henderson, Joseph Hubka, Dennis Ham, John Everett and Kenny Everett, and Ethan Koonce.
