Eusdela C
Chapa
Mar 2, 1923 — Dec 28, 2022
PLEASANTON
Eusdela Castro Chapa, our beloved family matriarch, gained her angel wings on December 28, 2022, at
the age of 99 years old in in the comfort of her own home in Pleasanton. Eusdela was born on March 2,
1923 to Bernadino and Teresa (Reyes) Castro in Floresville, Texas.
Eusdela was one of fourteen siblings. She spent her early years working tirelessly at her parents' sides
both out in the fields as well as helping to raise her younger siblings and aiding in chores. Good work
ethic was instilled in Eusdela from a young age and was something she valued and carried out until she
could no longer work.
Eusdela attended the Leal school, a one-room schoolhouse in Pleasanton. While working in the fields
and walking to and from school, Thomas Leal Chapa became a friend who carried her books and
eventually became a suitor. They married in 1943, just before Thomas shipped off to fight in the Pacific
Campaign of WWII. At the end of the war, they worked to build their lives in Pleasanton and raised 4
daughters.
Family was everything to Eusdela. She was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great
grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She always put others' needs before her own and would go
out of her way to make sure her family was taken care of. As a wife, Eusdela made sure the house was
well-kept and home cooked meals were prepared. As a mother, she would sew clothing for her
daughters to wear for school and showered them with unconditional love. As a grandparent, Eusdela
enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren by taking them to Dairy Queen, the local swimming pool or anywhere
their hearts desired. Eusdela truly loved making memories with her family.
Over the years Eusdela had many past times. On the weekends, Thomas and Eusdela would go to the
"baile" and loved listening to Tejano music and dancing the night away. They would also frequent the
local flea markets to see what treasures they might find. When Eusdela had some time alone, she
enjoyed solving word puzzles, tending to her plants, and watching Wheel of Fortune and of course,
telenovelas.
Eusdela is preceded in death by her parents, Bernadino and Teresa Castro; husband, Thomas L. Chapa;
daughters, Florencia Chapa and Celia (Sally) Pacheco; son in law, Luciano Pacheco; grandson Lou Thomas
