Faye
Russell
Apr 26, 1930 — Sep 18, 2023
San Antonio
Ola Faye Russell, 93, of Schertz, passed away on September 18, 2023. A graveside service will be held at the Rutledge Cemetery, 1735 Rutledge Rd., in Poteet on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 10:00 am with arrangements made by Hurley Funeral Home of Pleasanton. The service will be officiated by Rev. Ryan Russell, Faye's grandson. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Faye was born on April 26, 1930, near Harlingen, Texas to Homer James and Ola Griffin White. The family later moved to Brownsville, where she and her 6 siblings grew up.
On December 26, 1948, Faye married CW Russell. They lived over 34 years in Brownsville and Los Fresnos where Faye was mostly a stay-at-home mother to their 3 children. After their youngest child entered school, she worked as a library aide at Los Fresnos Junior High for 12 years. Once the "nest was empty", she began traveling with CW and lived in Arkansas and Tennessee. In 1986 she and CW bought a lawn care business and moved to San Antonio.
A devoted Christian, Faye was always active in the local church, along with her husband, CW. She taught children in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School in Los Fresnos and was a ladies' Sunday School teacher in her church in Tennessee and at Brookhill Baptist Church in San Antonio.
Faye was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting family gatherings. She loved growing vegetables, doing ceramics, tole painting, camping, and playing games with her friends.
Her family misses her great personality, her laughter and love, but knows they will be reunited with her one day in heaven.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, CW Russell, by her parents, her brothers, John B. White, Earl Ray White, her two sisters, Betty Lou Roberts and Nancy Carol Burbank, and an infant great-grandson, Wyatt Russell.
She is survived by her brothers Robert J. White and wife Joy of Harlingen, Gerald White, and brother-in-law Gene Russell and wife Margaret, of Nacogdoches, her children, Judy Wolter and husband Wayne of Universal City, Roger Russell and wife Terri of Abilene, and Tracy Russell and wife Orell of Allen. Nine grandchildren also survive her: Garrett Wolter and wife Katie, Kevin Wolter and wife Melissa, Barry Russell and wife Cortessa, David Russell and wife Kristina, Whitney Russell, Chase Russell and wife Julie, Joanna Russell, Ryan Russell and wife Raechel, and Nicholas Russell and wife Laynie. Faye is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren.
