Frederick Irving Ernst went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 13, 2023. He passed peacefully at his home, his beloved ranch, surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 29, 1938 to Irving & Louise Ernst and lived all of his life in Somerset.

As a child, he grew up helping his father farm and ranch and always loved it. He met the love of his life, Margaret Johnson, while attending high school. They were married for 59 years and had two children, Jim and Luanne. During his life, he wore many hats: working as a mechanic for Holt, serving in the national guard for 5 years and becoming the Post Master in Von Ormy. When he retired,  he was able to pursue his love of ranching full time. He enjoyed the outdoors and would hunt and fish every chance he could. He had a love for wildlife, feeding and taking care of all his animals and whatever animal came across his land. Fred never met a stranger and his presence will be greatly missed.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sister MaryLynn Trapp; his son, Jim (Gina) Ernst; his daughter, Luanne (George) Chura; his four grandchildren, Kasey (Brex) Bradley, Travis Chura, Tayler and Devyn Ernst; and two great-grandchildren London and Beckham Bradley.
