Gary Wayne O’Neal passed away September 21, 2026, at the age of 62. He was born April 5, 1964, to Murray O’Neal and Margaret Jane (Cecil) O’Neal in San Antonio, Texas.

Gary will be remembered as a hardworking, talented, and kindhearted man who took great joy in life’s simple pleasures and in the company of others.

For more than 40 years, Gary worked in the oil field, building a career defined by dedication, skill, and perseverance. He was the kind of person who could fix just about anything, approaching every project with patience, ingenuity, and capable hands.

Gary enjoyed collecting knives and guns, watching westerns with his dogs by his side, and traveling to new places. Yet no matter where his journeys took him, he believed home was always the best place to be.

Creative and endlessly curious, Gary especially enjoyed using his 3D printer to design and make things. He also treasured visiting with the residents of Argent Court, where he found great happiness in conversation, connection, and sharing his time with others.

Gary’s resourcefulness, warm presence, and appreciation for home, companionship, and community will be fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Saenz O’Neal, daughter, Daylena Garza, son, Aaron Valdez, II, sister, Nina O’Neal Long and husband David of Oklahoma, grandchildren, Brenan Quintanilla and Layla Garza, nephew, Dean Long and wife Mary, and niece, Rebecca Long.

Gary was preceded by his parents, Murray O’Neal and Margaret Jane (Cecil) O’Neal and brother-in-law, Leonard Saenz.

Serving as his pallbearers are Brenan Quintanilla, Dean Long, David Long, Aaron Valdez, Hunter Saenz, Chris Saenz and honorary pallbearers are Daylena Garza and Layla Garza

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Hurley Funeral Home starting at 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a reciting of the rosary at 7:00 pm. A mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 2, 2026 at St. Andrew Catholic Church starting at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at San Ysidro Cemetery in Pleasanton.
