Gerald Vincent Camber

January 24, 1938 – December 1, 2021

Gerald V. Camber of Jourdanton, Texas, was born to Vincent Joseph Camber and Tillie Wiatrek Camber in Gillett, Texas Karnes County.

He was raised on the family farm, where he learned his hard work ethic.  Gerald graduated in 1956 from Falls City High School where he was very active in many areas of school activities.  Following his desire to pursue a B. S. Degree in Agronomy, he graduated from college in 1960 at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas.  After graduation, he was drafted into the U. S. Army for two years, serving in Germany during the Berlin Crisis.

Gerald was devoted to his Catholic faith, his family, his friends, and his farm.  He put his heart and soul into anything he attempted.  He worked his first fifteen years of his career in the Soil Conservation Service in Texas.  For the last twenty-five years of his employment, he worked as a Reclamation Specialist at San Miguel Electric Cooperative in Christine, Texas.  After retirement, he and Carol were fortunate to travel to Alaska, Canada, and many places in the continental U. S.  These trips and cruises were the highlight of his leisure years as well as going to the farm and raising cattle.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife Carol of forty-one years.  Also surviving him are his children Jill Laskowski (Marty), Julie Mangold (Jim), Kym Camber, Gena Powell (Jay), Duncan McAda (Sandra) and Ben McAda (Trisha).  He also has fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  He has one sister Marian Seyler (Martin), sister-in-law Edna Camber and a brother-in-law Jim Duncan (Katy) surviving him.  There are also many nieces and nephews who were very special to him.

Preceding him in death are his parents Vincent and Tillie Camber his brother E. J. Camber and his grandson Brock Powell.

A visitation for Gerald will be on Monday, December 13, 2021, at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, starting at 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with a rosary recited at 7:00 pm.  Then on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, a mass will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Jourdanton, starting at 10:00 am, followed by interment at Jourdanton City Cemetery.
