Gerald Alvarado, Sr. known to many as "Pop's", passed away at home on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at the age of 66, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 15, 1958, in San Antonio, Texas.

For 15 years, Pops worked in the oil field, specializing in water transfer. He also proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Pleasanton for nearly a decade. He was also known for being a skilled carpenter who built many houses and took pride in every project he was a part of.

One of the most cherished things about Pop's was unforgettable sense of humor. He loved to joke around and be goofy with everyone, always finding a way to make people laugh, no matter who he was with. He also loved to tell stories from his own live, whether it was something he'd done or seen; he always had a story for everything.

Another major part of Pop's life was his passion for barbecue. He made countless meals for his family and even competed in barbecue competitions under the name "Old Grump Pop's BBQ", a name given to him by his grandson, Aaron. He also claimed to love fishing, though it's unclear if that meant catching fish or just collecting fishing gear.

Gerald was preceded in death by his father, Santos Ruiz Alvarado; his mother, Elvira Alvarado; brother, John Alvarado; sister, Irma Alvarado; son, Gerald Alvarado, Jr.; and grandson, Levi Miller.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Ester Alvarado, and 7 sons, the late Gerald Alvarado, Jr., and wife Shannon, Mark and wife, Faith, Kenny and wife Angie, Ray and wife JoAnn, Eric and wife Shannon, Gary and wife Savanah, and John Ross; and sister, Mary Alvarado Lammens. Pop's also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a large extended family, including many aunts, uncles and cousins, along with numerous friends.

Though Gerald had many grandchildren, his closest consist of Aaron, Emerick, Nevaeh, Gena, Reese, Tiffini, Jack and Oreo (Arianna), as well as Courtney and Jorege and Nicole and Emilio, who were also always ready to help whenever Pop's needed anything.
