Gladys Ruth Migura Persyn passed away peacefully on February 1, 2024, in Del Rio.  She was born in Yorktown, Texas on October 23, 1939, to Alois and Vera (Skloss) Migura.  Gladys attended Holy Cross Catholic School and graduated from Yorktown High School.  After high school, she and several friends moved to San Antonio where she worked for USAA.  Gladys met Ronnie Persyn at a dance and they married on April 30, 1960.  They originally lived in San Antonio and when Holt Machinery transferred Ronnie to Del Rio in early 1962, they made their home there with daughters Julie and Jane.

In 1967, Ronnie established his own business, Ronnie's Tractor Service, and Gladys worked as the secretary/bookkeeper for the company. While Julie and Jane attended Sacred Heart Academy, Gladys was active in the parent-teacher organization and helped with the school's fundraisers.

Being in Del Rio, Gladys and Ronnie lived away from most of their relatives in Leming, Yorktown, and San Antonio.  That distance didn't stop them from hosting numerous family gatherings in Del Rio, especially with Larry and Ernestine Persyn.  And when the grandchildren started arriving in 1985, Gladys said that this was the best time of her life.

In the late 1990's Ronnie developed several serious health conditions and Gladys devoted her time as his caretaker until his passing on May 1, 2005, one day after their 45th wedding anniversary.

Gladys is survived by daughter, Julie Persyn Novak and husband Charles Novak of the Black Hill Community, daughter, Jane Persyn Whaley of Del Rio, brother, Carroll Migura of San Antonio, and sister-in-law, Ernestine Persyn of Leming.  She is also survived by grandchildren, Ronnie Ray Whaley and Marshall Whaley of Del Rio, Ryan Novak and wife Jeralyn of the Black Hill Community, and Sarah Novak Franklin and husband Matt of Pleasanton; great grandchildren, Emma Whaley, Clara Novak, and Ellie Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Persyn, parents, Alois and Vera Migura, brother and sister-in-law, Emory and Betty Migura, brother-in-law, Larry Persyn, sister-in-law, Marie Migura, and brother-in-law, and sister-in law, Jim and Jonette Persyn.

The family extends its thanks to Southwest Assisted Living and Holy Savior Hospice for their care of Gladys.

Visitation will be held at Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Pleasanton, Texas at 9:30am on Saturday, February 17, 2024 followed by a funeral mass at 10:00am.  Burial will take place immediately after the funeral mass at Saint Andrew Cemetery Number 2.
