Obituary

Glen Elvard Selby, 90, passed away on January 15, 2025, in Hallettsville, Texas.  Glen was born in Poteet, Texas on July 23, 1934.  He was one of eight children of Harvey and Elizabeth (Qualls) Selby.

He was a devoted son, husband, father, and friend. During his senior year at Poteet High School, Glen was co-captain of the Aggies football team. Later, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he spent most of his three-year tour in Japan.

Glen married Sharon LaRue Climer at the Climer home in Poteet on June 27, 1956.  Glen and Sharon raised three children, Rhonda Kathleen (Pratka), Valerie Elaine (Hamner), and Kevin Glen.  He worked for 30 years as a mechanic at American Can Company in San Antonio.  Glen enjoyed coaching Pop Warner football for many years and even took his team to the 1964 Championship game in California. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and gardening.  After his retirement, Glen and Sharon eventually hit the road and spent 22 years traveling full-time in their RV.  Among their many adventures, they cherished their summers spent in the New Mexico mountains and all the friends they made along the way.

Glen was the last surviving child with Alma, Estelle, Roland, Ray, Virgil, Jerry, & Travis preceding him in death along with his son-in-law, Dwain Hamner.

Glen is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sharon Selby (Shiner), and their 3 children, Rhonda (Rod) Pratka (Shiner), Valerie (Mineral Wells), and Kevin and his friend, Kay Chapoton (Hewitt), grandchildren, Lilynn Hamner (Mineral Wells), Rhett Pratka (Pleasanton), Reid (Jenni) Pratka (Boerne), and brother, John Therese Pratka (Irondale, Alabama). Also surviving Glen are 4 great-grandchildren, Daphne Hamner and Kayla, Brayden and Peyton Pratka.

Glen will be missed by everyone who knew him and had the opportunity to share a moment over coffee and conversation.  A viewing will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 10:30 and services immediately thereafter at 11 am at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Texas with internment following at Amphion Cemetery.
