In Loving Memory of Gloria Luna Mejia

With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce Gloria L. Mejia's passing on the morning of March 26, 2024, in San Antonio, where she was surrounded by some of her closest loved ones and family members. Those who knew Gloria knew she brought light and warmth to everyone around her. Her tenacity, outspokenness, devotion to God, and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone she met and knew.

Born on August 17, 1953, in Coolidge, Arizona, to the late Melquiades and Maria Luna, she was one of fifteen children. In the early 1970s, she moved with her family from Arizona to Texas and attended and graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1972.

While some of her friends went on to become doctors or lawyers, Gloria's destiny was to be a mother. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles, also known as "Bobo," with whom she created a family and built a life for the next 45 years. Gloria found happiness in the moments she spent with loved ones, especially her grandchildren, for whom her love knew no bounds, often telling them, "I love you to the moon and back," or "I love you to infinity and beyond." She was usually at the center of planning every family function, quinceanera, wedding, birthday party, dinner, and almost always on the dance floor. She had a gift for bringing her family together for memorable occasions.

Today, as we gather to remember Gloria Mejia's life, we celebrate the legacy of a remarkable woman who was selfless, caring, and always ready to lend a helping hand. Her steadfast love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Melquiades Luna and Maria Lopez Luna; beloved husband, Charles Ray Mejia Sr.; siblings, Mike Luna, Conrad Luna, Alfredo Luna, Beatrice Herrera, Rosa Belia Aguilar, Christina Martinez, Mary Luna, and Lupe Smith.

She is survived by her children, Charles R. Mejia-Foster (Stephen Patrick Foster-Mejia), Genesta Mejia-Ochoa (Robert Frank Ochoa), and Jason Matthew Mejia (Sabrina Jo Mejia); grandchildren,  Payton Joseph Chapman, Chloe Aliani Ochoa, Jazmyne Mayra Mejia, Juliet Monet Mejia, Jaclyn Miranda Mejia, and Jaxon Charles Mejia; siblings, Gustavo Luna, Johnny Luna (Rose), Becky Luna Diaz (Octavio), Adolfo Herrera (Frances), and Herminia Romero (Richard); along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Public viewing will be held at Hurley Funeral Home on March 29, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., where we will honor Gloria's memory and cherish the moments we shared with her. She will be laid to rest with her husband on Sunday, May 12, 2024, starting at 5:00 pm at San Ysidro Cemetery.

In Gloria's honor, let us remember her joy, kindness, and the love that she radiated to all who knew her. Though she may have left this world, her spirit will live forever in our hearts.

The family will be hosting a committal service at San Ysidro Cemetery at 5:00 p.m. on May 12, 2024 in honor of Mothers' Day.
