Hilma "Bonnie" Mae Murphy went home to God on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the age of ninety-seven.  Bonnie touched countless lives with her kindness and Christ-driven spirit.   Her love for Jesus shined through to every person she encountered.  She is survived by her daughter Shannon Murphy (Les Sachanowicz), granddaughter Madison Bowen (Marshall), great-granddaughter Atlee Bowen, great-grandson Weldon Bowen, nieces Maureen Reed, Bonnie Myers, Cynthia Olfers, and Marty Moore, nephew Duane Jackson, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.  Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, Sonny Murphy, her son, Shawn Murphy, and her parents, Walter and Mable Jackson, and seven brothers and sisters.

Bonnie and her fraternal twin Jackie were born on the family farm in McAllen, Texas on December 23, 1927.   Her parents were some of the early Texas citrus farmers in the Valley.  Bonnie graduated from McAllen High School in 1945 and attended Pan American College majoring in Art History.  After college, Bonnie met Sonny, and they married and started their family in McAllen.  Bonnie and Sonny enjoyed many adventurous years and were devoted worshipers at their church.

Bonnie was a homemaker for many years caring for Shannon and Shawn and later became a case worker for Child Protective Services.  Bonnie was an outstanding artist.  She created and sewed dance costumes each year for Shannon's dance troupe and was known for her prolific homemade Christmas decorations, which often included transforming the family pony into a reindeer.  She delighted in creating beautiful things that reflected the beauty of her loving God.  Bonnie was also an outstanding chef and loved cooking for her family and church friends.  One of her best dishes was a chicken and noodle dinner she cooked each Easter.

Bonnie also had remarkable skills in home repair and working with animals.  No project was too large for Bonnie—she was able to tackle any home project, from electrical to drywall.  And when she was a young girl and her brothers went to fight in the war, Bonnie helped care for the family farm and developed a deep love for horses that she carried with her for her entire life.

Throughout their lives, Bonnie and Sonny were devout Christians with a deep and abiding faith in God.  They were active members at McAllen Methodist Church and when they retired to Pleasanton, they were devoted members of First Baptist Church of Pleasanton.  Bonnie cherished her church community and delighted in sharing what God was teaching her with anyone she encountered.

One of Bonnie's greatest delights later in life was her granddaughter, Madison.  Bonnie and Madison had many adventures, and Bonnie nurtured in Madison a deep love for God and his creation.  Bonnie also loved the years she got to spend with her great-granddaughter, Atlee, and found such joy in watching Atlee discover the world.

Bonnie will be remembered by the innumerable lives she touched with her zeal for life, her abiding love for God, and her willingness to help anyone in need.

The family wants to extend heartfelt thanks to Bonnie Myers who called her daily and Terry Landholt who made her days more enjoyable by her presence.

A celebration of Bonnie's life will be held at First Baptist Church of Pleasanton (400 N. Reed St, Pleasanton, Texas 78064) on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 1:00 PM, with a gravesite service following.  Viewing will be available at 12:00 PM.
