It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James "Bubba" Allen Brister, age 69, on April 28, 2026. Born on October 24, 1956, in Carrizo Springs, Texas, Bubba was a beloved husband, father, and friend who touched countless lives with his kindness, humor, and unwavering faith.

Bubba is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Cindy Brister. The two met while playing volleyball in Christine and built a joyful life together, creating a home filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories as they raised their daughter, Jordan.

A devoted father, Bubba adored Jordan and was her biggest supporter. Whether coaching her team or cheering from the stands, he was always present, offering encouragement and pride that she will carry with her forever.

An industrious and dedicated man, Bubba was the proud owner and operator of Atascosa Fire Protection from 1984 to 2017, faithfully serving his community through his work in fire safety. He later continued his career with 3B Fire and Safety, where his passion for helping others and commitment to his customers remained evident. His work ethic and expertise leave behind a lasting legacy.

Faith was a cornerstone of Bubba's life. He grew up attending First Baptist Church in Pleasanton, where he was active in the youth group. After marrying Cindy, he became a member of Christine First Baptist Church, where his faith and love for community continued to grow.

Bubba was also a proud and devoted fan of University of Texas athletics, rarely missing a game and was one of the first to sign up when the Longhorn channel was announced.  During Bubba's battle with cancer he read the Freddie Steinmark book a couple of times and was motivated by Freddie's faith and heart.
He will be remembered as a man with a heart of gold, a quick wit, and a caring spirit. His warm smile and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bubba was preceded in death by his father, James Franklin Brister; mother, Aquilla Brister; brother, Terry Brister; brother-in-law, Bobby Bowen; and sister-in-law, Sherry Broom.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Brister; daughter, Jordan Brister; brother, Kenneth Brister (Lisa); sister, Sandra Stewart; sister-in-law Birdie Brister; sister-in-law, Kim Bowen; brother-in-law, Henry Broom; sister-in-law, Patti Bowen (Robert); brother-in-law, Johnny Bowen (Brenda); along with many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly, as well as many extended family members and his boss that he thought of more like a son, Eric Karcher.

Funeral services will be held on May 2, 2026, at Hurley Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM. Bubba will be laid to rest at Christine City Cemetery, with a bereavement meal at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall immediately following the burial.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Brister, Robert Mann, Johnny Bowen, Henry Broom, Mike Castellano, and Eric Karcher.

In this time of mourning, we also celebrate the life of James "Bubba" Allen Brister—a man whose love, laughter, and genuine friendship will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
