It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Daniel "JD" Kvapil, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and devoted community member. JD was born on January 11, 1938, in Miles, Texas, and departed this life on January 25, 2025, at the age of 87. He lived a life dedicated to service, both as a State Trooper for Texas and as an esteemed member of the U.S. Army.

JD was a beacon of kindness and generosity. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mildred "Millie" Kvapil, and their son, Wade Kvapil. Together, JD and Millie built a life full of love, adventure, and community involvement. As a retired State Trooper, JD was known for his unwavering commitment to the law and the protection of his fellow citizens. Prior to that, he served as an officer and detective for the Abilene Police Department, where he made an indelible mark in the lives of those he served.

Beyond his distinguished career, JD was actively involved in various organizations, including the National Rifle Association, the Goldwing Road Riders Association, and the Atascosa Historical Society. He also belonged to the Elks Lodge and was a founding member of the Pastoral Council at St. Luke's in Lorie, where he joyfully contributed to many church events and initiatives, leaving a positive impact on his parish community.

JD had a passionate spirit that shone through in his hobbies. He was a creative soul who delighted in designing and building birdhouses, sharing his creations with friends, family, and community auctions. His artistic talents extended to drawing, showcasing his natural abilities and creativity, which he generously shared with others.

An avid motorcyclist, JD and Millie traversed the open roads together, exploring the beauty of the states on their beloved Goldwing. Even up until two years ago, they continued to ride side by side, embracing life and all its adventures.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Patricia Kvapil, infant sister Evelyn Kvapil, and sister Sylvia Rhomfeld.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Mildred "Millie" Kvapil; son Wade Kvapil and his wife Lorena; sister Elaine Mucha; grandchildren Austin and Jenny Kvapil, Jourdann Kvapil, Alyssa Hoelscher, Jackson Kvapil, and Alan Hoelscher; great-grandchildren Caroline and Genevieve. JD Kvapil's vibrant personality, sociable nature, and profound generosity touched many lives, and his absence will be felt deeply by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, with visitation from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., reciting of the rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a funeral mass 4:30 p.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Lori.  Graveside services will be Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery at 235 CR 257, Rowena, Texas. We invite all to join in celebrating the remarkable life of James "JD" Kvapil, a true servant of his community and a loving family man. He will forever remain in our hearts and memories.
