Obituary

James D. "Jim" Rasmussen, Sr., age 88, passed away on August 15, 2023 at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.  He was born December 7, 1934 in Blair, Nebraska to the late Robert and Esther Rasmussen.  Jim married his wife, Angeline "Ann" in 1955.  Jim and Ann shared their love, joys, and sorrows for 59 years.  During the last three years of their time together, Jim became a devoted and patient caregiver to Ann until she succumbed to Alzheimer's disease in 2014.

Jim joined the United States Air Force at the age of 19 and proudly served his country for 21 years.  After retiring from the Air Force in San Antonio, he attended Palo Alto College and learned furniture upholstery.  Shortly thereafter, he and Ann moved to Poteet, Texas where he owned and operated Jim's Upholstery up until the time he became Ann's fulltime caregiver.  Jim and Ann professed their faith in Jesus Christ and joined the First Baptist Church in Poteet where he was a member for over 35 years.  Jim loved to sing, and he loved to read the Bible.

Jim was a long-time resident of Argent Court in Jourdanton, Texas where he was adored by the staff and fellow residents.  In June of 2022, he met his best friend and partner, Paula "Polly" Chapa.  Their friendship blossomed and the love and light in their spirits shone brightly during the year they spent together.  Jim touched many lives with his kindness, quick wit, positive outlook, and colorful socks.  He was a joy to be around and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister, his wife Ann, his son James D. Rasmussen, Jr., and his granddaughter Laura Rasmussen.  He is survived by his partner Polly Chapa, daughter Barbara Evans and her husband William Evans, grandson James D. Rasmussen, III and his wife Justine Rasmussen, grandson Jared Evans, and great-grandchildren Julianna Rasmussen and James D. Rasmussen, IV (due October 2023).

Services will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Texas on August 25, 2023.  A viewing will be held from 10:00-10:30 a.m. followed by a service at 10:30. Due to the heat, there will be no graveside service.  In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of James Rasmussen will be graciously accepted by First Baptist Church, Poteet, Texas.
