Obituary

**Obituary for James Robert Van Horn (1982 - 2026)**

James "Jimmy" Robert Van Horn, a beloved husband, son, and friend, passed away on April 5, 2026, at the age of 43. Born on November 26, 1982, in Kansas, Jimmy spent his life in service to others, both as a Juvenile Supervisor at the Atascosa Correctional Facility for the past nine years and as a proud member of the U.S. Army, where he served during the Iraqi War following the events of 9/11.

Jimmy was more than just a dedicated professional; he was a gentle, loving spirit with a sarcastic wit that brought joy to those around him. His passions were diverse, ranging from his deep love for "Harry Potter" and "Star Wars" to his exceptional skills in the kitchen—where he delighted his family with his cooking. Family was everything to James. He was a devoted husband, a loyal son, and an exceptional father who would go out of his way to help those he cared for.

In his free time, Jimmy found peace in the great outdoors. Whether riding his motorcycle, working in the yard, or spending time with horses, he embraced life with enthusiasm. His gentle heart and commitment to family made him a cornerstone of support for his parents and a role model to his children and friends.

Jimmy will be remembered not only for his service to his country and community but also for the warmth he brought into the lives of those who loved him. His legacy of kindness and dedication will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Van Horn, children Kendall, Harlan, Killian, and Evelyn Van Horn; parents Mike and Jan Van Horn; sister Nichole Nobles and her husband Ken; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Services will be Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Hurley Funeral with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., and funeral services at 11:00 a.m.  He will be laid to rest at 2:15 p.m. the same day at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Jimmy may have left this world, but his spirit, humor, and love will forever be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
