On a calm, peaceful day, as days' end approached, the Lord called on his son Jesus R. Huizar to leave his earthly suffering and follow Him home to paradise.  On April 17, 2023, Jesus peacefully and quietly passed from this world into the loving arms of his heavenly Father.

Jesus (Jesse) was born on December 26, 1945, to Luciano Huizar and Martina Reyes Huizar of Jourdanton.  Jesse was a lifelong resident of Jourdanton.  He attended the Jourdanton schools and graduated in 1964.  In his youth, Jesse always looked for ways to earn money.  For his first attempt, he was always digging for "buried treasure".  Except for a few glass rubies, emeralds, and quartz diamonds, it did not prove very profitable.  Then he built a large chicken coop and raised white doves with a few pigeons mixed in.  Another enclosure and he was raising rabbits.  All of these he traded with a passing peddler for a truckload of watermelons.  One time he took a job at the cotton gin in Jourdanton like most of the boys did, but quickly decided "picking cotton" wasn't quite up his alley.  He did enjoy working at a small convenience store, "Malones," where the present Sunoco now stands.

After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era.  He was crew chief in the Air Force and served from 1965 – 1969 flying many missions from home base in Michigan to Alaska, trans-Pacific to Southeast Asia and Guam.  He often credited his stint in the military for teaching him "how to figure things out".

After his term in the Air Force, he returned home.  First on the agenda was to find a job.  In 1970, he started a career with American National Insurance Company.  In those days, agents went house to house selling insurance and returned monthly to collect the premiums.  This provided an opportunity to visit with and get to know the people in the community.  He met a young girl from Poteet, Mary Sauceda, and they were soon married.  They were blessed with a daughter, Valerie.

After years in the insurance business, he changed course and for the next several years worked with the Juvenile Detention Center in Jourdanton.  He enjoyed working with the youth.  Changing course again, he began work at the state school in San Antonio, working with special needs/challenged youth.  This he thoroughly enjoyed.

In the later years, retired from work and medically disabled, he became a member of the Poteet VFW Post 6970.  His wife Mary enrolled also.  He was instrumental in obtaining the veterans memorial arch which stands in the entrance to the Pleasanton River Park.

In personality, Jesse presented himself as a reserved and quiet fellow and most knew him as such.  However, he could be a "chatterbox" discussing politics, or anything pertaining to the military and keeping up with the current events.  In his lifetime, Jesse was always involved in one project or another.  He was brimming with skill and knowledge as he tinkered and fixed, adjusted and reconstructed whatever task he was engaged in.  Another enjoyable pastime was growing plants.  He was always on the lookout for different types of plants.

Jesus was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Mary; his parents, Luciano and Martina Huizar; brother, Jose M. Huizar; and sister, Maria Huizar Reyes.

He is survived by his daughters, Valerie Huizar (Jourdanton), Letticia Huizar (Dallas), and Kimberely Sauceda (Colorado); grandsons, Isaiah, Michael and Sebastian (Dallas); sister, Lucy Huizar Garvin and husband Harry Garvin (Jourdanton); two paternal tias, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, from 9:00 am until 11:00 am, followed by a reciting of the rosary at 11:00 am and mass at 11:30 am.  Burial will follow at Aguero Cemetery.
