In Loving Memory of Jimmy Ray Olivares

Age 73, Jimmy Ray Olivares, a devoted husband, and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2023, in Jourdanton, Texas. He was born on February 26, 1950, in the small town of Poteet, Texas, to Alex and Beatrice Olivares.

Jimmy led a fulfilling and genuine life, finding joy in the simplest of pleasures. He had a passion for the great outdoors, often exploring the rugged beauty of the Texas landscape. He enjoyed spending his free time tinkering with cars, an interest that blossomed into a talent for fixing and modifying them. But it was on the family ranch, where he would cleverly engage with the cows and pigs, that true contentment was found.

Jimmy found his professional calling in the automotive industry. For over a decade, he worked as a dedicated Parts Manager for Dornak, fostering lasting relationships with both colleagues and clients. Prior to that, he had honed his skills at Wayne Bull Auto Parts in San Antonio until their unfortunate closure, after which he relocated to Jourdanton, embracing the close-knit community with open arms.

Jimmy greatest achievement was undoubtedly his role as a loving and devoted husband. He shared his life with the love of his life, Joann Olivares, who stood by his side through thick and thin for 41 years. Their unwavering commitment to one another was a testament to their deep bond and unwavering love. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but the memories they shared will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew them.

He is also survived by his brothers Alex Olivares and wife Ofelia, and Rudy Olivares and wife Rachelle; sister Lamar Pena and husband Charlie; sister and brothers-in-law Mary and Richard Brasiel, Sara Zepeda and Gregorio and Sylvia Segura, and Jesse Cabrera; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Olivares and Beatrice Lozano Olivares; brothers, Gilbert Olivares and his wife Grace, and Louis Olivares; sister MaryLou Cabrera; mother and father-in-law, Gregorio and Juanita Segura; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lucy Ybanez (Marcos), Maggie Zepeda (Ray), Joe Segura, Ramon Segura and Adelino Zepeda.

In honor of Jimmy life, a public viewing will be held at 9:00 am on January 4, 2024, followed by the reading of the rosary at 10:30 am, at St. Andrew Catholic Church. A Mass will follow at 11:00 am at the same location, allowing family, friends, and members of the community to come together to celebrate his life and find solace in the shared memories. Interment will follow in Hilltop Cemetery in Tilden.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Gil Olivares, Jesse Joe Cabrera, Paulie Lozano, Shane Brasiel, Ray Zepeda, and Ruben Garcia.  Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Orlando Zepeda, Randy Zepeda and Justin Cabrera.
