Obituary

Jo Ann Jones, 91, of Pleasanton, TX, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 1, 2023.  Jo Ann was born August 3, 1931, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to Verdo Owen and Josephine Hutson.  Jo Ann graduated from Lindsay High School as valedictorian in 1949.

Jo Ann had a servant's heart and passion for spreading the gospel.  She was very active in her church while attending Erin Springs Baptist Church in Lindsay, OK.  She and her husband were active with Ariel Ministries.  Jo Ann was an intelligent woman and avid historian; she had a passion for history books and genealogy.  She was skilled in sewing, knitting, crocheting, and quilting, as well as painting and drawing when she was younger.  She had a natural ability to design a project and then create it; she did not need a template.  She was a talented cook.  She and her children made cookies and candies every Christmas to give to all the neighbors, and she even made and decorated wedding cakes.  She was a hard worker, like many farmers' wives she grew and preserved vegetables from the garden; raised and helped slaughter sheep, hogs, chickens, and rabbits.  She taught her children to work and make their own money by working in the broomcorn fields.  Jo Ann was an amazing example of not just a Proverbs 31 but also a Titus 2 Woman of God.  She leaves a strong legacy behind as testified to by many who say they came to know Christ because she drove them to church when they were young.  Her love for Christ and children was evident in her everyday life.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents Verdo Owen and Josephine Owen Briscoe; stepfather W. Flow Briscoe; and sons, David and Richard Jones.  She is survived by her husband Archie Dee Jones; daughter Nancy (Randy) Webb; son Donald (Kathy) Jones; sister Betty Jo Dermon; grandchildren Kris (Sonya) Jones, Kevin (Rachel) Jones, Kellie Dawn (Danny) Marker, Noah (Mallory) Jones, Michael (Kristen) Gustafson, and step-grandson Robbie Baker; great-grandchildren Sabastian Jones, Brooklynn Jones, Brandon Jones, Brianna Jones, Raven Jones, Daniel Jones, Corbin Jones, Nash Jones, Jack Gustafson, Lauren Gustafson, Dalton Marker, Hailey Ann Marker, Aiden Jones, Axel Jones, Dillon Baker, Lucas Baker, Stella Baker, and Ivan Baker, and step-great granddaughters Jessi Marker and Cheyenne Metcalf; great-great-grandchildren Layla Jones, Grant Jones, Veda Jones, Bristin Cox, Mason Cox, Jocelynn Smith, and Hollynn Metcalf.

Memorial service will be held Friday, July 7th at 10:00 a.m. at Living Water Fellowship, 2995 SH-97, Pleasanton, TX. A graveside service will be held at Purdy Cemetery at a date & time to be determined.
