Joan Gillen Poppell McGehee of Bigfoot, passed away unexpectedly on January 26, 2025 at the age of 77. Joan was born to Howard J Gillen and Nell Davidson Gillen on August 2, 1947.

Joan was 4'10"in stature, but did not let that deter her outspoken, opinionated, large, loving, comical, firecracker personality. You may not agree with her, but she was sure to make you laugh anyway. When Joan loved you, she loved you in a huge way. She loved showering her friends and family with thoughtful and sometimes eccentric gifts. Joan had a vibrant zest for life.

Joan was a hairdresser for 25 years before retiring after 20 years with the Texas Department of corrections as a correctional officer. During her time at TDC she met and married John McGehee. They shared an amazing love for each other, and he is going to miss her deeply.

Joan was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother (Momo). She will be missed by her husband, John son Gil Poppell, granddaughter Brittany Turner (Daniel), great-grandchildren, Liam, Dayton, Rosalie Turner. Also, her stepsons Jason and Bill McGehee and their children, William Logan, Bailey, and Lana.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jerry Eichman (Maryanne) and sister Vada Collingsworth.

There will be no funeral service per Joan's request. The family is planning a celebration of life at a later date TBD.
