With heavy hearts, we announce the forthcoming celebration of the life of the exceptional John Ray Martinez, a devoted father, and a beloved grandfather. His journey on earth commenced on April 12, 1951, in San Antonio, TX, and will end on November 16, 2024.

John's tale is one crafted with mastery as he owned and operated the esteemed Alamo Dragway in San Antonio, where he showcased his ingenuity and business acumen. He was born with speed in his blood.  Acknowledged as a savvy and successful businessman, John expertly managed multiple enterprises while never losing sight of what truly mattered – his family. His capacity to nurture his entrepreneurial ventures while concurrently creating unforgettable family memories is a testament to his remarkable character.

A man of diverse talents and interests, John found joy on the golf course, clinching victory in numerous tournaments, and indulged in the thrill of deer hunting, sharing these experiences with his daughters. His infectious personality drew children close, endearing him to many as "Uncle Johnny." A natural storyteller, John's quick wit and humor added joy to every gathering, as he effortlessly spun tales and jokes, leaving all in stitches.

In celebration of John's vibrant legacy, you are invited to pay your respects St. Brigid's Catholic Church 6907 Kitchener St. San Antonio, TX 78240 on December 3, 2024, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and Mass at 10:30 a.m. He will have a time for visitation on Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home Pleasanton.  He will be laid to rest following the prayer service at Mendolia-Martinez Cemetery.

John's kindness knew no bounds, and his generous heart touched the lives of all who had the privilege to know him. As we commemorate his extraordinary life, let us remember the laughter, the love, and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.

John was preceded in death by his parents Dee and Mamie Martinez; brothers Paul Jessie Martinez and Dee Martinez II.  He is survived by daughters Alyson Gonzales (Ed), and Ashley Martinez (Keith Henderson); brothers Marvin, Arnold and Joe Martinez; grandchildren Jonathan and Megan Gonzales.
