John Joe "Johnny" Zamarripa, beloved husband of Josie Zamarripa, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023, in San Antonio. He was born on March 28, 1935, in Jourdanton, to Dolores Flores Zamarripa and Belen (Olivarri) Zamarripa.

Johnny led a remarkable life, filled with hard work and dedication. He began his journey as a shoeshine boy at the Atascosa County Courthouse, demonstrating his early commitment to making an honest living.  With a passion for fixing things and a natural talent for craftsmanship, Johnny later became the owner of Johnny's Paint and Body. He poured his heart and soul into his business, gaining a reputation for his exceptional workmanship and commitment to customer satisfaction.

Beyond his professional achievements, Johnny proudly served in the United States Air Force. His sense of duty also extended to his community, where he served as the assistant Fire Chief for the Pleasanton Volunteer Fire Department and was a founding member of the Atascosa County EMS.

Johnny embraced life with enthusiasm and cherished the simple pleasures it had to offer. He loved fishing and spent countless hours on the water, finding solace in nature. His ability to fix anything earned him admiration from friends and family who would turn to him when something needed repair. His kind-hearted nature knew no bounds; Johnny would lend a helping hand to anyone in need, regardless of their ability to pay. He genuinely cared for others and made a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to cross his path.

In his free time, Johnny loved to travel and explore new places. He loved dancing, lighting up any room he entered, and collecting clocks, each one telling a unique story. Johnny leaves behind a legacy of resilience, generosity, and love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dolores and Belen Zamarripa; sisters, Corrina Garcia and Rosa Chapa; and brothers, Gilbert Zamarripa and Arthur Zamarripa.

Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Josie Valenzuela Zamarripa; sons, Edward Zamarripa and Henry Zamarripa (Sylvia); stepson, Tony Talamantez; sister, Manuela Hernandez; mother of his children, Angelita P. Zamarripa; his beloved dog, Buddy; his dear friend, Edward White; and loyal long-time employees, Joey Aguero (24 years of service) and Jimmy Garza (29 years of service); along with numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, starting at 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with a reciting of the rosary at 7:00 pm.  A mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, starting at 11:00 am followed by burial at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery #2.

Pallbearers will be Jack Garcia, Earl Young, Jesse Chavez, Woody Wilson, John Wilson, and James "Scooter" Akers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ed White, Craig White, Tommy Franklin, Jimmy Garza and Arnulfo Olivarri.

Although John Joe may no longer be with us physically, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
