Jose M
Gonzales
Sep 16, 1937 — Dec 19, 2022
San Antonio
Jose M. Gonzales, 85, passed away peacefully at his residence in San Antonio, TX on December 19, 2022. He was born on September 16, 1937 in Charlotte, TX to Jose A. Gonzales and Elvira Maldando Gonzales. Jose stayed in the area his entire life and although he lived in San Antonio, he loved to retreat to his farm outside of Charlotte to escape the business and noise of the city and to spend time with his babies, his animals. From cats and dogs to horses, Jose was an avid animal lover. Jose proudly served the San Antonio School District for 30 years before retiring as the Drama Teacher at both the elementary and middle school throughout the years. He enjoyed Politics and from an early age was heavily involved with supporting the candidate he believed in, rather it was helping with phone campaigns knocking on doors or standing on the streets. He was a proud American and felt it was our privilege and duty to make a difference by getting out and voting. Jose enjoyed jogging, weightlifting, woodworking, and carpentry. He was an avid follower of football and track and spent a lot of time volunteering at the San Antonio Botanical Garden and eventually became Master Gardner there.
Jose is preceded in death by his parents Jose A. Gonzales and Elvira Maldando Gonzalez, his brother-in-law Robert Renaud, and nephew Calixto Eduardo Gonzales. He is survived by his brothers Frank Gonzalez and his wife Judy, Leandro Gonzales and his wife Diana, sister Lila Garza and her husband Eugene and Mary Alice Renaud; nephews Francisco and Javier Gonzales, Leonard and Leandro Renaud, Joe Garza, and Leandro Gonzales Jr; niece Lilia Pearl Garza; numerous great nephews and great nieces.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to an animal shelter of your choice or to Sierra's Canine Rescue and Rehab PO Box 171333, San Antonio, TX 78216.
