Jose Luis Reyes, known to many as Joe or Joey, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was tragically taken from us on August 29, 2023, at the tender age of 70 leaving behind many memories that will be forever cherished by his loving family.  He was born on July 1, 1953, in Corpus Christi, TX to Octavio Tanguma and Marta Contreras Reyes.

Joe was a proud graduate of the Roy Miller High School Class of 1971 and went on to pursue higher education at Texas A & I University – Kingsville, where he enrolled in the ROTC program where his dedication and commitment were evident throughout his life.  During and shortly after his time in college, he was employed by EXXON USA, he went on to pursue greater opportunities with AEP Texas where he dedicated 24 years of service serving as a plant operator at Nueces Bay Power Station.  His hard work and passion for his job were commendable, and he left a lasting impact on his colleagues.  In addition to his professional endeavors, Joe was a talented Entrepreneur, running his own remodeling business under the name "Honey Do Repair Man".  He had a knack for fixing things and took great pride in his work.  Joe was a member of the Roy Miller High School Alumni and the Corpus Christi Buccaneer, staying connected to his roots and fostering lifelong friendships.  Music, dancing, reading, and gardening were Joe's greatest joys in life and he had an innate ability to find solace and happiness in the simplest of pleasures.  Whether he was swaying to a beautiful melody, engrossed in a captivating book, or tending to his garden, Joe's love for these activities brought a sense of tranquility to his soul.

Sadly, Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Octavio Tanguma and Marta Contreras Reyes of Campbellton, TX, and his brother, Arturo C. Reyes of Corpus Christi, TX.  Their absence left a void in his heart that could never be filled.

He leaves behind to cherish his loving memories and continue his legacy his idolized wife 49 years, Minerva "Minnie" Maldonado Reyes, and his beloved mother-in-law, Maria Maldonado of Calallen, TX.  These two extraordinary women held a special place in Joe's heart, providing him with unwavering love and support throughout his life.  Joe's precious daughter, Athena Rebecca Reyes Runnels, and remarkable son, Daniel Reyes, along with his caring son-in-law, Jeremy Danniel Runnels, were his pride and joy.  He cherished every moment spent with them, creating countless beautiful memories that will forever be treasured. Joe's four grandchildren, Sydnie Paige, Alexi Taylor, Savannah Isabella, and his best buddy, Gerald Buster III, brought immense joy and laughter to his life.  Their presence filled his heart with an indescribable love that knew no bounds.  Additionally, his great-grandchildren, Everette Alexander "Baby Stinker", brought a new generation of happiness to the Reyes family.  Joe is also survived by his siblings, Eva Garza of Houston, TX, Ramon Reyes of Round Rock, TX, Rita (Fred) Sepulveda of Alamogordo, NM, and Anna Reyes of San Angelo, TX.  He is also survived by his Maldonado In-Laws, Ricardo, Jr, Valentin, Rebecca, Samuel, Marylou, John, Margarita, Bill, Ofelia, and Robert, as well as countless cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors who held a special place in his heart.

The Reyes Family will be holding a graveside service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Campbellton Cemetery under the direction of Hurley Funeral Home 118 W. Oaklawn Rd. Pleasanton, TX 78064.
