Obituary

Josie C. Paniagua, was born in Pleasanton, Texas on March 19, 1936, and passed away peacefully in Pleasanton on July 22, 2024.

Josie worked hard at a young age spending time working in the agricultural fields and driving the farm tractor.  When she was a little older she received her beautician's license from the Texas Cosmetology Commission and began her career at Alma Ruth House of Beauty.  She also worked at Dawn's Beauty Shop.

She married David G. Paniagua and together they raised 6 children.  As if raising her children was not a full time job, Josie also was a sales representative for Avon, also known as the "Avon Lady," and she helped her husband in preparing Federal Income Tax Returns.

She was a strong woman battling and surviving cancer at three different times in her life.  Spiritually, she was devoted to her church always participating and donating items to sell for the church picnic or baking pies or cakes for the Thanksgiving Dinner.

Josie loved her family, she was the rock; her household always drawing her children back home for a visit whether it was a Holiday or just any other day, she always had a delicious home cooked meal for them and for all visitors sending them with "goody" bags as they traveled back home.  One of the family's favorites for Thanksgiving was her jalapeno cornbread and the gravy was especially delicious.  Another good time was when she would gather the family to make tamales.  Her baking skills also produced another family favorite, apple empanadas.

Cooking good food was not her only passion, she also loved her plants and gardening; she liked to sew, making many of her own clothes and the clothes for her children; she was always altering the inseam on pants whether it was raising or dropping the hem as her children grew.  When her grandchildren were born she made baby blankets.

Josie will be missed by her family, which includes her daughters, Rebecca Dakin, Elizabeth Martinez, and Carol Arbo, her sons, David Paniagua, Jr. and Robert Paniagua, grandchildren and great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces.  She is preceded in death by her husband, David G. Paniagua, her daughter, Mary Catherine (Paniagua) Mathers, and her grandsons, Kenneth Reynolds, and James Reynolds, parents, Trinidad Charo and Teresa (Leal) Charo.

Visitation, and Rosary, will begin at 9:30am. on Friday August 2, 2024, at St. Andrew Catholic Church.  The Mass will begin at 11:00am.  Graveside services will take place at Esparza Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be:  Joe Lopez, Ricky Paniagua, Ernest Gonzales, Larry Paniagua, Marty Mathers, and Bruce Arbo.
