Juan Martinez Alaniz, age 84 of Poteet passed away in San Antonio on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. He was born Friday, May 5, 1939, to Francisco and Virginia (Martinez) Alaniz. Juan retired as an assembler for General Motors after 30 years. He was a devoted Catholic. Loved to play poker with his lucky rabbit's foot and go dancing. He was always dressed to impress from his Stacy Adam's to his fedora!

Juan is survived by his children and their spouses, Juan Jr Alaniz and wife Donna of Austin, Texas, Maria Inez Kahn and husband Mike of Waterford, Michigan, Arlene Hernandez and husband Jesse of Freeport, Texas, Richard Valdez of San Antonio, Texas, Samuel Alaniz and wife Deloris of Flint, Michigan, Arturo Alaniz and wife Connie of Flint, Michigan, Ruben Alaniz and wife Lonna of Lafayette, Indiana, Elvia Alaniz Agular and husband Ruben of Saginaw, Michigan; sisters, Genive Deanda of Poteet, Texas, Rafaela Perez of Poteet, Texas, and Maria Hernandez of Poteet, Texas; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Alaniz; parents, Virgina Martinez Alaniz and Francisco Alaniz, and brothers, Louis Alaniz, Pablo Alaniz, Pancho Alaniz, Gilbert Alaniz, and Joe Alaniz.

Serving as pallbearers for Juan's service are Ruben Alaniz, Samuel Alaniz, John DeLaGarza, Richard Perez, Robert Pacheco, Armando Alaniz, Raul Alaniz, and Larry Hernandez.

Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, on Thursday, May 2, 2024, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, 274 Avenue H, Poteet, on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Madre Dolorosa Cemetery #2.
